Does anyone on Coumadin suffer from really bad
headache's.
Mine have recently started and it is near my eye's and then my whole head.

Casey, this is serious please stop taking coumadin and call 911, because you may have no idea that you are already having internal hemorrhage just like my friend who died of just headache and severe and made her eyes eventually not able to open anymore...please don't take this lightly...coumadin can make you bleed most of the time cranial bleeding...please call 911, don't just drive to emergency, time is of the essence...

Here is what I worry/think about as I continue my Coumadin therapy for over a year now: how long can one stay on it? If one stays within range, is the only issue bleeding......not falling down and banging your head? If that is so, I can do that by making smart decisions about activities, BUT ---how does it effect your organs? Any thoughts??

Ron, as long as your liver is functioning properly - you shouldnt have a problem -- coumadin is processed in the liver. Unlike meds like Lipitor which can cause serious liver problems, coumadin is not like that. With the coumadin the biggest risk is monitoring your INR in order to keep it in range to prevent a bleed.

Hello all!! I have not posted for awile now!! Hope everyone is doing ok. I was doing great on my cumadin, until Fri the 23rd, when I was givin a cortasone shot in my knee. everything seemed ok til sun and mon and then the problems started. My whole leg hurt real bad. went to the ER and they checked for Clots, But thankfully did not find any, gave me a lot of pain shots and sent me home throwing up. By Tues I was experincing a very rapid heart beat and was very lightheaded, so I drove to the CVS and took my blood pressure it was 151/124 pulse 124. normal blood pressure for me is 120/79 pulse around 70/90. The workers in the pharmacy noticed me and came to my rescue, When the amblance got to me my blood pressure was 189/169 and pulse was 134. Had to stay in the Hospital for 3 days and still my heart will feel like it is going to run away, even with medicine to keep it down, They have determined it was a bad reaction to the shot. I hope I never have to have one of those again, I was wondering if anyone else had had a reaction like this?

Hi Casey. Your headache sounds like mine a few months ago. It came on suddenly while I was showering and all I could do was hold my head and wait for it to pass. A few days later I started having episodes of syncope (losing consciousness). My doctor sent me to the hospital for the syncope. While there I told a neurologist about the headache and he sent me for a brain MRI with some kind of dye (I think he called it an MRE). He said the headache could have been caused by bleeding on the brain and that if it happened again I should go immediately to the ER for another MRI. I waited too long and whatever traces may have been there were gone. If you have the excruciating headache again I recommend that you go straight to ER before the wounds heal. I haven't had the headaches again, but I'm having every other possible side-effect from the coumadin that officially doesn't exist.(o: Less than two months to go and I'm finished with this stuff. I can hardly stand the wait!

Hi Richard,

I had two blood clots and two PEs following total knee replacement. I have my INR checked every two weeks as well. I have the aching legs, stomach swelling, hair loss, very tired, and yes moody, my husband calls me crabby abby. I hate being on coumadin. If anyone knows of an alternative please post. The deaths and other negative reports are starting to frighten me.

I've been on coumadin since last year( two dvts and pes), four months after having total knee replacement surgery. Why does the doctor insist that I had a clotting problem. He makes it sound like it had nothing to do with the surgery. I never had a blood clot after previous knee surgeries or other surgeries. The clots form behind the knee that was operated on and then travel to my lungs. Does anyone besides me think that something is going wrong during these knee replacements? What is causing so many people to have clots and pes following knee replacement.

(No, I was not sedentary, quite the opposite, always moving and exercising). So many questions and very little answers.

Hi,
I have run into a snag!! I had a really bad Flu,
and I knew it would throw off my INR.
My specialist whom I love, said my INR was over
2-time's it's usual amount.
I go every 2-week's , but this week I am going agian.
The bruise' on my my left leg , looked horrible,
they did not hurt though.
I am 1-day off coumadin and over 1/2 of my bruised are gone.
My INR should be a 2.0, I could definatly notice the difference, when my specialist called and told me not to take Coumadin for a tew day's and then
4-mg. a day , until my blood test on this Wensday.
Does anyone get the same bruise's, it use to be I
had to really smash my leg's for a bruise , now they just appear, Thank God it is not summer, people would assume I was being beat up!

Any in-put would be much appreciated.

To ALL on Coumadin --- I have heard from a doctor friend that work is being done on a coumadin replacement. This is very exciting to me as I have been on it for almost 2 years. However, he also said, in almost the same breath, that it is a VERY slow process and not to get my hopes up too high for it anytime real soon. So, in the mean time, we should hang in there and be diligent about our dosages. I don't like it but am too afraid of the consequences if I stop.

Thank You for the Info., we can alway's hope for something!
I am on coumadin because in 2007, I had a severe pain in my stomach , I thought it was just a Stomach Flu ( the weather in the East Coast change's by the minute, right now we are getting snow again!).
I went to the Hospital for what I thought was a
Flu, and I ended up having to lose 1/2 my colon and a portion of my small intestine's. Found out
that I have Gene Factor 5-Leiden.
Still trying to wrap my head around it, I was told this at 39yrs. old. I am now 42yrs.old. and I
hate it, but I still will do whatever I can to
treat it.
I am a Cancer Survivor - so I know I have the fight in me. Sometime's , you just really wish it
could be easier, and my number's w/coumadin could
actually stay the same for One WHOLE MONTH!!

your INR will never stay the same hour to hour never mind month to month
just aim to stay close to your range
my range is 2.5 to 3.5
but I am happy with
2 to 4
