As a family member In FL I believe that the police department need's to get control of their ongoing problem! How many more innocent people have to die before they realize that they need to use more care with fleeing offenders. Their are nearly as many tragedies here in FL, because they take fleeing offenders seriously!

Looks like we need to offer all criminals in jail driving lessons to curtail these accidents. They are a menace to our roads. Good job by the S.C.P.D officer it appears he did everything by the book and was correct in attempting to catch up to a motor vehicle to initiate a stop of a operator suspected of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and or alcohol. To blame the officer for the motor vehicle collision clearly caused by the the bad guy is insane. The officer did not force him to speed. Run a red light drive under the influence and flee from an identified police officer in a marked patrol car. These were all decisions made by the bad guy and the bad guy only. He is to blame. If the bad guy would of followed the officers instructions cooperated with the investigation of the stolen property the victim would of continued through his green light and continued on with his life.

Lucausi is a murderer. he got high, got behind the wheel of a car and turned it from a mode of transportation to a murder weapon. He deserved to go to prison. As for the police officer, he did nothing wrong. He did his job. had he not tried to pull Lucausi over and gotten on the LIE...he probably would have done worse and the public would want his head for not going after him. I work just west of that gas station....we heard the sirens Lucausi didn't even try to stop. There was no squeal of the brakes. He just slammed full force into the other car! We all heard it. What a tragedy. that poor family.

The loss of life is always a tragedy. Especially for reasons such as protection of property or what would be considered LESSER crimes. That, i would think all can agree with.(exceptions:capitol punishment)There is nothing that could have justified that innocent man's death. However, it is also a tragedy for the police officer as well. He was performing his duty and i am sure he regrets the event. Should the police just let motorists flee? Could he have hurt someone later in the day? Of course the officer would be to blame for that as well. It is very simple equation after the smoke has cleared. I am not going to preach about what you or i would do in the same situation. More should be focused what exactly should be done in future similar situations. I hope this doesent discourage police officers from doing the job that they are sworn to do. Policing methods arent perfect but what else can the police do? Let every fleeing suspect go?

Their arrogance, and I'm talking for the most part about police brass, makes them feel that they are always 100% right, no matter what. I again go back to having unmarked cars on LIE. When people feared being pulled over by fake cops, the cops blatantly lied when they said that they don't use unmarked cars on the LIE. We all know that's not true, but they made that statement at the time. They don't don't care what the public thinks of them. They serve an important purpose in what they do, but that doesn't give them carte Blanche to do as they please. Having said this, the murderer who destroyed so many lives should burn in hell.

So, the guy was killed over a stolen lawnmower (sarcastic). The cop was called there because of stolen lawn equipment not drugs and this officer decided it was worth putting peoples lives in danger for lawn equipment. All the other charges came after the chase. I'm sorry, but if that was my husband that had been killed, I would be pissed! How about we only pursue a chase when the criminal poses an IMMEDIATE threat to the public.

No one can predict a madmans actions when he is on a binge, but this is another reason why everyone should be aware of thier surroundings when motoring.I for one don't care much at all for SCPD, they have proven to be liars in the past however the fault on this lies completly with the madman and not the cop. I always check for oncomming vehicles when crossing an intersection. Long island is a cesspool of crime, corruption and pedophiles. Glad i'm gone.

I have had positive and negative contact with police here and in other places. Nothing criminal of course. Unprofessional cops. Yes, they exist. So do unprofessional teachers, lawyers, etc... Dont even begin to get me started on medical personel. The point is that they are just regular people like you and me. No better or worse. I dont think its personal. Its simply poor communication skills, attitude etc.. Heck, im not making excuses for them but there are so many more important issues at hand today. Thats just a little bump in the road of life compared to other situations and problems that we have and WILL face. I always remember hearing that rudeness spreads and it certainly does. What is our normal reaction when we recieve unnecessary attitude or rudeness from another? We often pass it along to another person. When you get cut off driving do you immediately drive overly defensive? Someone doesent let you change lanes, do you suddenly block all of the other a!#h@^#% on the road? Perhaps not being as courteous as you normally would be. Being aware of this keeps things in perspective and stress levels in check. Simply let the miserable @%# enjoy his miserable life while you laugh it off.
