My son's car had the same problem. He had the ignition module replaced and it works fine now.

My Saturn just started doing this same thing this week. Were you able to find the cause? The Saturn dealership was unable to fix it.

Try checking the IAC valve in the throttle body. This valve allows air to bypass the butterfly valve in the TB for cold engine starts to allow the engine to idle higher. This valve sometimes gets gummed up with carbon and sticks slightly open to create a higher idle effect. You could either try cleaning it up with some carb cleaner or replacing it. They're not too expensive, but usually cleaning them will do the trick.

TOD you are gonna need to put heat shielding around your starter and or replace the starter. You could try cleaning all you electrical connectors in the starting system first.

I have a 1994 Saturn SC2. When I am driving long distances or at a higher speed, the check engine light comes on, the temperature gauge goes up, the RMPs go up to about 5 and it wont accelerate or shift into gear on its own (its an automatic). Also, when I put it in reverse, sometimes I need to tap the gas a couple times to get it to go...and it jolts into reverse, this tends to happen more frequently when the car is "warmed up".

Clean the throttle body. Take it off, get an old tooth brush and a can of carb cleaner, scrub it out really well (should be shiny like new on the inside). If you search YouTube, richpin06a did some videos on this.

I have 1997 saturn sw2 with an intermittent stalling problem. I have replaced the plugs, plug wires, coil packs, engine coolant temp. sens., camshaft position sensor, and ignition module, and it still stutter and eventually shuts off when it gets hot. I have no more money and am about to blow it up if I cant get any help on this lol I am desperate. ANY IDEAS?!....I was thinking maybe the egr valve or ecu. You think?

I have a 1994 SC2 Saturn with 250,000 miles on it. It has just started acting like it is not getting gas. I dies on me and want start back for a while it just turns over. We put a new fuel filter on it. That seemed to work for about a week then we put fuel cleaner in it and that lasted about a week. Does anyone know what the problem might be?

Have a 2000 Saturn SL2 and love it expect this one problem. Sometimes it wants to keep going when you want to stop. Then when you put her in park the idel will rise to 1800 to 2000.
Shut the car off and restart and everything is fine for a while. ECU has been replaced and reprogrammed with no help.
suggestions would be helpfull.
I have the same problem with my 2002 SL2. Several times I've had the engine actually rev up to 1500+ rpm from 1000 while stopped in traffic. I've taken it to the Saturn dealer (just after warranty expired) and to 2 other repair shops. There are never any codes generated. First shop 'guessed' then cleaned throttle body without fixing problem. Only one shop experienced the problem and they replaced the IAC but that did not fix problem.

I have a 2003 Ion with 65K Miles. I'm getting this weird problem where my car won't start at random times. When I go to start, it will roll over and then stop. Then it will just start clicking when i turn the ignition. I'll have to wait about 15-20 minutes and then it will start up fine. I've changed the starter already and the battery and the connections are clean and connected. Has anyone ever heard or experienced anything like this? I've taken it to two local mechanics and they can't figure it out either. I appreciate any help.

I recently have gone through all of these problems. It took 4 months and much money to solve the issue. It turns out that the transmission wires in my car were shorted out causing it to "amp" and a surge of power to be directed to the transmission module. In the end - I had the wires re-covered ($4) and a new transmission module ($550 - installed)- now it is working as good as new!

I have a 95 Saturn SL2. For as long as I can remember I have had a problem with random surging and bucking while driving it under certain conditions. Getting on the interstate, not being able to accelerate or slow down because of traffic. City driving starting and stoping, and so on. Recently, I have changed the following things: Oxygen Sensor, MAP sensor, Cleaned the EGR valve and ensured that no blockage existed inside the mount. Changed the fuel filter and PVC valve, Spark Plugs, and coil as well. Man the thing runs like a new car except for this random occurance. What else could I look at?

I am amazed at myself that I never updated this thread... In the end this problem was caused by a blocked catalytic converter. The honeycomb had discintegrated to the size of a baseball and as the car built up rpms the memaining mass would block the outlet, especially on upward grades, which forced the exhaust into the intake via the EGR...
I installed a test pipe and the car ran like a Ferrari!

i got a 95 sc1 with a twin cam 1.9ltr engine ,it for some reason is missing when ever i give it gas at all and the more gas i give it the more it missed.replaced spark plugs egr is not working but it ran fairly decent without it before this, so i dont think that is the problem.

1995 Saturn SL2 manual transition 146,754 miles car started bucking after shifting into next gear. It was really bad and the next thing gear shift went out. Is it the transmission or clutch cable?
