UAW, American Axle Make Deal That Could End Strike

An American Axle and Manufacturing Holdings Inc. spokeswoman confirms the auto parts supplier has reached a tentative agreement with the United Auto Workers that could end an 11-week strike.

Spokeswoman Renee Rogers says she doesn't have any details of the deal reached late Friday. It's not clear when the agreement will be presented to union members.

The walkout by about 3,600 workers at five factories had crippled truck and sport utility vehicle manufacturing at General Motors Corp.

The company makes axles, drive shafts and stabilizer bars for GM, Chrysler LLC and other automakers. Read more

It's about time they reached some kind of an agreement. It's also sad if they are still going to close the plant in Tonawanda & Cheektowaga. A lot of families will be hurt by the closings. This has been way too long of a strike. It's been very hard to make ends meet, especially with the cost of food and gas prices going up. I just pray that the buyouts and buydowns will be decent. These are very hard working men and women that work at American Axle. This strike makes me think twice about what vehicle I want to buy in the near future. The top guys still get richer and the guy on the bottom has to suffer for their GREED. Believe me, this will backfire at them. If people don't make enough money, how will anyone be able to afford to buy a vehicle. Go UAW and thank you again to the men and women that worked hard for American Axle.
