The IPCC's 2007 report concluded that there was a 90% chance that greenhouse gas emissions from human activities are causing global warming, but the panel has been criticised over a mistaken claim that all Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2030."
This blog truly amazes me most of the time. Most of you should go back to school, maybe even UCSC...
go to: climatedepot.com for look see at the wealth of information collected that exposes the Al Gore man-made globahoax, Britain's East Anglia Climate Research Unit(CRU) and IPCC UN propaganda, manipulation involving sudden disapearance of raw data used to propgate their false agenda for political and financial gain which also conveiniently did not allow scientific peer review and challenge!

We love going to the aquarium to see and learn about the animals and cool exhibits, but I'm very sad that the Monterey Bay Aquarium continues to ratchet up their politics.(sigh) It was already very much in-your-face, but now...?

We'll have to go and see, but I'm considering NOT renewing our membership. It's expensive, and I'd rather use our limited funds to support things that don't have that hit-you-over-the-head-until-yo u-are-assimilated element. There's enough of that in our society as there is! All this supposed deference to science, yet they latch onto this "junk science" political agenda.:(

And for those of you who think you have to accept the human-created global warming tripe in order to believe in and practice conservation: You're wrong. Conservationism doesn't have to be political/religious. There were conservationists way before all of the global warming hype. And you can love and want to protect natural places without feeling like human beings are scum of the earth that need to be controlled or eradicated.

I guess it is OK for an aquarium to have a political opinion, as long as they are not registered as a charity that does not pay taxes. I guess Julie has decided she would like to start paying taxes to Monterey County out of the warmth of her heart.
Do you really believe that non-profit (not required to pay taxes) organizations) do not have political leanings or agendas?

Really?

Let's start with the ACLU. Then let's move over to Planned Parenthood. Then consider the umpty-nine "pro-life" organizationes to which you can send a tax-deducatible gift.

On what planet do you live?

Getting a bit arrogant Julie. Stick to the "science" and leave the philosophy to those that are trained for it.Your hunter dad understood this.

I went to the "members' preview" of the exhibit on Saturday, and it's really heavy-handed on it's "you really should do something about climate change" message. I think probably the thing that turned me off most was the re-working of WWI, WWII and Soviet propaganda posters into "Environmental" posters. As a history teacher, I'm familiar with the original posters and I think that choosing such a blatant format is likely to turn people off their message.
In general, it was the least interesting new exhibit the aquarium's had in years.

I noticed they removed all the scientific names in Latin for their exhibits and don't have the little maps showing the distribution of the populations. If they want to be real scientists and have the public trust their word about global warming, why would they dumb down their exhibits?

If there is information regarding global warning or the disentigration of the delicate balance that makes up our planet, then either I'm missing that info, or there isn't enough media or something..know about the fluorescent light bulbs.

As someone commented previously, I will not spend my money there if they insist on pushing political propaganda.

Shame on them. What a terrible disservice to the public.

Polls show that right-wing propaganda is working to make more Americans ignorant of science. Luckily other nations are taking global warming seriously and are taking the lead on developing the new energy technologies.

I'm shocked to hear that. How disappointing. Even the most commercialized zoo keeps the REAL (common names are useless, since many creatures are known by multiple common names) names by the displays. And even the most poorly run zoo displays information on where the animals will be found. Without science, what makes the MBA any different from the large aquariums you find in some mega-malls? Even Sea World displays that info...unless things have changed there as well.

The Aquarium should consider staying out of the public propaganda media hoax of man made global warming, a la Al Gore, and the subsequent hacked e-mail fiasco indicating gross manipulation and fraudulent use of data and the intentional deletion of raw data so to preclude scientific peer review questioning their theory as they the Aquarium stands a very good chance of offending intelligent potential visitors from spending their money visiting their exhibit. In harsh economic times, one would be wise to hold ones political tongue and biased agendas when courting tourist dollars!

You mean just like those ignorant right wing Australians who are tossing their version of Cap and Tax due to the unproven science and the potential of destroying their economy? Open your eyes and take a look at the wealth of information presented at www.climatedepot.com

Oh, by the way! I have a Biology degree from the mid seventies where it was propagandized/theorized at that time the planet was suffering from a mini ice age as they proclaimed we were suffering from catastrophic global cooling! What a joke! But you have to realize politics and money investors are salivating and looking to make very large sums of money perpetuating, regulating an taxing this Al Gore Man Made Global Warming hoax. Just look to see how much Gore is worth compared to when he left office in 2000. Then look at the time relationship lines tying his board of director’s position with his carbon trading company to the money raised to produce his film and how much he’s worth today if you don't believe me!

I was responding to the previous comment about the opinion. Of course they can have a leaning/agenda. The real problem here is when they start advocating specific action with legislators specifically related to getting a particular law passed. This is a political action committee (PAC). Contributions to a PAC are not tax deductible. If an organization solicits contributions as a 501c3 charitable organization, but then engages in PAC activity, there is a problem. This is why ACORN set up so many different shell companies to hide their political activities from the charitable entities. Now it has all fallen apart for ACORN and they have had to disband.

So, did you also take alot of bad LSD during the 70's?!?
Did all of your drug fueled "soul searching" lead to your final disdain for peer reviewed scientific consensus?
Or was it all those years as a cop that gave you your jaded perspective on life?
Gotta wonder!

Calling this a PAC is silly hyperbole. And ACORN got in trouble because of blatant graft and deceit. No comparison.
