Maytag recall becomes troublesome

I too am a victim of the infamous dishwasher recall. I waited a month to get the parts and then an appointment for repair. I took the day off from work, only to not have anyone show up to do the repair. Maytag's excuse, human error (theirs)and the appointment never got logged with the service company. I waited another week and this time the repairman did show up. Only to tell me that my dishwasher had mineral deposits and wasn't worth fixing. It worked fine before, but he said it wasn't worth his time and took the parts and left. I'm now sitting without a dishwasher and not sure if I can now get the rebate. Not that I want another Maytag, but it's the principal.

Phewwwwwww....
Well, I finally got my new dishwasher installed on Saturday morning and it's really better than the one I had. I am glad it worked out as we have been without a dishwasher since February and the original "fix" killed our machine too. Once I got the call from Maytag that we would have our unit replaced, everything went smoothly from there after several fruitless attempts to get this resolved. I wish you all the best of luck with this frustrating situation too! |
|
After three months without, my new replacement unit arrived on Monday and the service tech just finished installing it this morning.
New units are built very light, but we're looking forward to many reliable trouble free years of service. |

We have a Kenmore - the tines have been rusting for approx a year now - I called Sears and go the run around. I don't think I should have to replace the dishwasher because the parts were made cheaply. Last time I will buy any Kenmore product!

When we bought our Maytag model MDB7100AWQ from Sears in April 2000, the salesman convinced me that the new hard nylon racks & tines were much superior to the cheaper coated steel ones. I bought a dishwasher one step above what I needed just for that feature.
After seven years of almost daily use, the nylon tines were in perfect shape. |

Dishwasher finally repaired. Long wait, no fault of Maytag. Parts sat in kitchen for quite a while before I called for the appointment to have it repaired. Repair done and dishwasher has been working fine.

But Maytag came and fixed it for us. Worked while he was here. We did a load of dishes, great so far. Then died completely. Now they want to charge us to come and fix it... of to buy a Danby or GE. We should have a class action on these shysters. d-a-ve @ unixhome . net

Parts installed and dishwasher works fine. Good thing I didn't listen to REN (#67). My advise is to go for the repair and let Maytag do its job.

No way. It was 5 months before I was notified of the danger. They offer $75. toward buying another problem, Or having me take time to wait for a part, someone to come in and tear up my kitchen and maybe, just maybe the fire danger will be corrected. No way. Your spelling says it all about your mental capacity. I would guess you are a Maytag union employee. Our lives and property were in danger because of faulty and poor workmanship and we should settle for their inadequate offer. No way.!!! |

I'm wondering if Maytag's legal obligation is simply limited to issuing a recall and installing the repair kit. Do they have a legal obligation to make sure that their appliance works after the installation? Like so many people, my dishwasher worked great until I followed the recall instructions! Now it's quite broken and I don't know if it will ever get fixed. Does anyone know the extent of Maytag's legal obligations?

I received a Recall letter from Maytag stating. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Maytag Corp. has voluntarily recalled 2.3 million Maytag and Jenn-Air brand dishwashers due to fire hazard. Liquid rinse-aid can leak from its dispenser and come into contact with the dishwasher's internal wiring, which can short-circuit and ignite, posing a fire hazard. I called as instucted and received a box box with replacement part within a week, and was instucted to call one of the local installers they referred. I called and scheduled an appointment. The tech arrived on 8/15/2007. Replaced the part and left. That evening, I noticed the dishwasher would not stay on. I called the installer again. Another tech came out and pointed out that the previous tech had broke some parts when installing replacement parts. He had to order new parts. Parts could take 7 to 10 days to arrive. Here it is 10/4/2007 (49 days) later and I still don't have a working dishwasher. I've called the company that did the Installation, "Speedy Appliance Repair" (That's A Joke), multiple times and each time they either say, the parts should be here today or the part should be here tomorrow. I've called Maytag three times (including Today) and all they say is, we will look into this and someone will get back to you. This is Beyond Rediculous.

It has now been two months since the repair was done. Dishwasher has been working fine, just like before the repair.
Had nothing but total cooperation from Maytag and the repairman. This wasn't the problem that this sight would lead you to believe. I would buy Maytag again. |

Okay....I'm scared....just sitting here waiting for a repairman to come and do the replacement. I've heard nothing from the company doing the repair and lo and behold...I can't find the company in the phone book or on the internet...so I can't even call to confirm!!!

I too have taken the day off for this repair. It is now 11:30...my appointment is for between 8am - 12pm. I just called Maytag (as I cannot locate the repair company they use either on the internet or in the phone book!!!) and they told me to basically, relax...they will be there and that they normally call an hour ahead to confirm they are coming. I confirmed the name of the contracting company with the gentleman at Maytag, told him I cannot find them listed anywhere, asked for the phone number of the contracting company but he said he "couldn't" give it to me. At first, he questioned whether or not the service call was even booked through Maytag as he couldn't "find it". I basically told him that how would it be possible for me to book the service call myself through a company THAT I CAN'T EVEN FIND!!! I don't think I'm getting my repair done today...good times! |

So we call in, they send out a kit. Kit comes, we schedule an installation---- 8-noon or 1-5, that's as close to an "appointment" you can get. So unless I take a day off work, it's on the weekend. Fine. Schedule for a Saturday morning 2 weeks out (again, somewhere between 8-noon. He'll call before he comes. If you don't answer or miss the call, he won't come) Guy comes, opens up the unit, says that ours wasn't leaking and looks great, but, they have to install the retro kit anyway.(I can understand that). Unit gets filled up over the next two weeks or so, and we run it. We weren't home at the time, but noticed a few drops of water on the floor under the door when we got home. Hadn't had it before, but thought it might some of the steam condensation or something. Filled up again over the next two weeks and ran it again. This time we were home. Sure enough, there's a problem. I'm not quite sure exactly what it is, but somehow, when it goes into drying mode, the hot steam is able to get to the inside of the door (ironically, similar to the problem they were allegedly "fixing") and can leak out through the seams of the door and gets up into the control wiring on the front panel of the door. By gently pushing on parts of the door we could generate streams of water to come out of the seams (not the door gaskets, the seams of the door itself). So, we call up the Service Center. Have to schedule another appointment. Can you order more parts or another "kit" ahead of time? No, the tech will have to come out and assess it. OK, schedule another Sat. morning appointment (another 2 weeks). Guy comes out 8am. Opens up door, says it all looks fine, don't see a problem. Tell him the details, he cycles the unit about 30 seconds in each part of the wash process, doesn't see anything (well duh, it doesn't even heat up enough to get steamy in the time he was looking at it). Nope, looks fine, go ahead and run it. Guy leaves, we run it, it leaks. Call the service center back. Can we get someone out here. Sure, we'll call you back. Back and forth on the phone all day with guys that are "supposedly" coming, but never do. Finally, after about a dozen calls (I'm not kidding here) we get a guy out at just before 5 pm. He opens it up and says that whoever installed some of the retro kit stuff didn't do it right (but nothing that would cause the leaking issue, he 'thinks' that it's due to a thicker pad they put in that is separating the "drying" vent from the gasket that leads from the inside of the door to the outside of the unit).***why didn't the 1st guy in the morning catch the improper install?, don't know****. So, this guy says he needs to order some parts (didn't say exactly what) and that when they come, to call and schedule an appointment to be installed. I asked if it will need a new control panel because of all the steam/moisture that has worked it's way up there. He said he didn't know. So, the parts are in the basement, and the guy is coming this Saturday morning to install them. I called Maytag corporate and talked to a woman there. She listened to the whole story and said that yes, that's what we need to do. I explained about all my wasted time for something that wasn't even broken, and how I could just buy a new dishwasher for all time I'd already wasted and still didn't have it fixed. She apologized (hey, that makes it all better!) for all my troubles and said thanks for letting them know about our difficulties with the repair center, that the feedback does get back to them (does me a lot of good), and to call her if we have any problems after this latest attempt at a "fix". I would have been better off if I'd never heard about the recall, you know?

This is ridiculous. Our house could have burned down because of our dishwasher. How many times did I start it right before I went to bed or stepped out for a little while to go on errands. They offered a repair kit and I have to call an 800 number to get a repairman to do it. Their second solution is a $75 rebate on a new Maytag dishwasher. I already paid for my dishwasher, I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars again so soon. I shouldn't have to.
I thought Maytag was a good brand. This is my last one that's for sure. I bought a dishwasher because I truly hate washing dishes by hand. Arrrgh! |

Sony Corp and their defective televisions are robbing people of untold dollar loses with many of their HDTV> All those who have bought a SONY CORP TV HDTV and they are breaking down need to get together and ignite a CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT> Consumers are out thousands of dollars on these defective OPTICAL BLOCK. Your best advice to a friend or anyone you know is , DO NOT BUY A SONY TV , they are very poorly tested and repairs usually cost over a thousand to $1800 a repair on the OPTICAL BLOCK DEFECT.
I am having my second OPTICAL BLOCK IN 15 Months being replaced. These SONY televisions are garbage. GOOGLE SONY |

after years of saving I finally purchased my dream kitchen with all brand new Maytag appliances including a front loading W/D 20 months ago.
By purchasing all at the same time I was due a $600 cash rebate. It is now 20 months later and Im still waiting. 2 weeks after purchase the bulb blew on the microwave. Of course you can only find that particular bulb through a Maytag Dealer. Then a recall on the washer 4 months in which resulted in retro fitting a part that we had to do ourselves (this part took 3 months to come after we were notified) Then the digital read out on the lovely refridgerator went now the microwave died this morning. Buyer beware Maytag is not the Maytag we grew up with. Years ago they were indeed reliable and long wearing. Now they are predators to unsuspecting consumers. Class action indeed..Wheres the FTC when you need them |

Here's a good one,,,I just got the dishwasher recall notice today 6/28/2008. Fortunately, my dishwasher is not affected by the recall. Last year, it started leaking from the door, water was leaking on to the kitchen floor, so I disassembled the door, found the cause of the leak and ordered another jet-dry and soap dispenser seal on-line and installed it my self. I noticed that water had also been getting on some wiring in the door, so I cleaned every
thing and sealed the wiring and contacts before reassembly. I don't trust service repair people. I never have and never will. I always feel that if anyone will do the repair correctly, it will be me because if it's done wrong, I will have to answer to my wife. Oh, yea, a lot of these parts are probably manufactured in foriegn countries now (outsourcing). That might explain the poor quality and the delays in receiving the parts. Yea outsourcing!!! I retired from the Navy after 20 years working on aircraft electronics. I love this country but am very pissed off that we are giving our manufacturing capability and technology to other countries. Now the part quality goes to crap and no one seems to care about their customers any more. Don't they realize that the customer is who provides their paycheck??? Now I find that the company that I currently work for is doing the same thing. What's next?? Do we need to start learning Chinese???? |
