36 inch cooktop over a 30 inch oven

I am planning on having a 36 inch cooktop centered over a 30 inch oven. I have already bought the appliances and my contractor thinks that I need a trim piece around the oven to make it symmetrical. Should I have a stainless steel trim piece or some type of molding that matches my cabinets?

I really don't think you need a trim piece. I think it would look a lot better with just the oven and the cook-top. As long as the cook-top is centered over the oven it will look fine. I manage an appliance store (25 years) and we have several displays which have a 36 inch cook-top over a 30 inch wall oven and it looks fine. I hope this helps.
