Workplace smoking rules stir uproar
Smoking is a lightning rod for controversy, as is the question of whether workers who smoke should have to pay more for their health insurance.

I completely agree. This is crazy.

Where I work, to get the discounted medical insurance ($15 less per month) employees must take a non-smoking pledge. There is no test or check to verify if you have ever smoked or are currently a smoker. Am I(non-smoker) a greater risk, but because I won't take a pledge?
For those folks who think that this is OK with you, would you also be OK with discounted insurance for folks who pledge not to drink, take drugs, or have sex? All of these things increase the chances you will incur greater medical costs and none of theme are protected under current discrimination laws. |
