We kind of know when all is said and done with,

WN UA DL and AA are going to be around...

of the remaining who in addition to

US HA B6 and AS will be thrust into the big 5?

Will US be able to go at it alone!
Will B6 be the next goal of American!
Will AS and HA remain as stand alone major mainline players with regional names!
Will WN be left out of what remains!

That about wraps up the state of the industry!

WN was just thrown into the poll cause we know they will be around, however will they ever become a part of the global airline industry much like

AA DL and UA? US is far more global than WN for example! Another thought I believe in terms of market cap...

AS could buy US. Does
B6 have the market cap to buy US?

WN in any of these situations would be on the sidelines in terms of global reach although they would still be just as strong as they are domestically but not a reall part of the global industry. Hmmm

The question is, should US and AS seek a merger, could AS continue to codeshare with AA and DL?

AA could reap some benefit out of the time wasted trying to get with US. This and an AA acquisition of B6 could keep them Something Special in the Air when it comes to DL and UA

DL - would probably be okay with this too as they would gain market feed over UA with their best buddy AS

US via AS - gets a hub presence with potential for long distance flights out of the Pacific Northwest on routes DL does not wish to serve.

However Hawaiian would be a more likely safe acquistion target for US Airways so they could remain in control and

expand their global reach and Star Alliance power.

The big 5 is not enough for a thriving, competitive, robust, and resilient American Air transportation system. We need a big 6 or big 7.
