Get over it people This is the end result of Jimmy Carter's deregulation of a public utility.

Raise the rates. This $69 airfare mentality has spoiled us. These airlines have cut every expense quite well, but fuel is out of their control. Where is the market inefficiency?
Regulated airlines had troubles too. Half full planes weren't healthy.

I would be fine with airlines raising rates if it kept the service level at least decent. I understand that airlines are suffering from extremely high fuel prices just like the rest of us and on a much larger scale. However, with the rate increases comes terrible service. Bags are lost (and charged extra for 2 bags). Flights are constantly late. There is no more food (not even peanuts on some airlines) even on the flights around meal times. Flight attendants are overworked, underpaid and in constant threat of layoffs making them grumpy and in some cases downright rude. Then, the airlines choose to raise their rates by the "nickel and dime" method.$3 per bag for checking at the curb, plus the tip,$20 extra for a second bag (not a huge deal so long as you are traveling for less than 4-5 days), extra for an aisle or window seat, extra for a drink, and so on. If they need more money, raise rates by $50 bucks across the board and call it a fuel surcharge. I noticed that only one airline (I think SW) did that. People will complain, but they will get used to it. Service, however, needs to be improved. That is the point of the article.

Any industry that beats out Comcast on low customer service truly SUCCKKS.
That takes some doing. Bravo airline industry. Youve truly reached the top of the bottom.
Meanwhile used car salespeople, McDonalds restaurants, and Home Depot locations nationwide are breathing a great sigh of relief that they are nowhere to be seen near the top of the worst list.

Read about the airline genius pilot captain that made the foreign guy sit on the toilet for the entire flight? That was legendary.
The airline was Jet Blue. Google it. Youll laugh your azzzes off. Typical airline behavior nowdays.

Am I honestly the only one who doesn't mind flying?
I go back to Michigan or out to the west coast about 6 times a year, typically on the cheapest ticket I can get. I'm not overweight so I can fit in the seats fine and don't need to eat every 2 hours. I bring a book or doze off and the next thing I know I'm at my destination.
Sure I've had a bag misplaced for a few days and flights delayed for hours every now and then, but $hit happens, life doesn't revolve around me and I just try to make the best of it.

Ladies and gentlemen you want low prices and I am sorry that is what you get for the price. People expect the best for nothing. I know people will say that the airlines should to this and that. Basically deliver on-time with bags to the correct destination. The airline employee has experienced one cut after another and they face minimal staffing and assistance. The airlines are a disgrace. The Executives care nothing about service..they never have. They give BS lip service and there is always a "Spokesperson who will tell the press they need to make improvements and are working on it." US Airways has been promising better service foe over two years now since the merger. Doug Parker and his staff are clueless and have no idea what customer service is. He holds the pilot unions separate because he does not want to deal with seniority issues. His planes are filthy and poorly kept. United has no idea what it is doing and American has management that is ignorant.
In other words, the service will not improve ever!!! The airlines refuse to staff properly and the line worker will continue to have attitude. I know the public does not like it..but either you need to pay higher fares or face terrible service. But I doubt even if you paid higher fares the management would never invest in GREAT SERVICE!!!

Southwest cored high, how???!!! I flew them for the first time last month and I will never fly them again. When I arrived at the airport, every flight going to FL, was on delay and by delay, I mean hours!!! The weather, sunny in NY, sunny down the coast, sunny in FL! No weather issues to speak of. Asked about the problem, no one would say. People getting off the arriving flights looked as unhappy as those of us waiting. The gate people were nasty and rude. They yelled at people that were accidently in the wrong group. No one seemed to understand the boarding proceedures, except the nasty people at the gate. As for the plane, it was horrible. There was gum stuck to my armrest and the wall next to me. I asked for something to clean up the mess and all I got was a small moist towlelett. Never, never will I fly them again!!!!

Nickel and Dime
|
I don't expect scores to improve much next year. With most of the major airlines charging for bags, food and drinks, and whatever else they can nickel and dime the passenger for is setting up for more grumpy travelers from the outset. And $15 to book a flight over the phone!? Fare restrictions are a joke. So you get a good fare with a catch including not being able to choose your seats unless you want to pay the full fare.
And, even if airlines feel a backlash and come to their senses by getting rid of all those hideous fees, I'm sure it'll be built into higher rates. Plus, all the airport taxes.
And travelers insurance? What a scam like most insurance policies. If you pay for an airline ticket and your flight gets cancelled, shouldn't the airline be responsible instead of needing insurance? If I go to a store and pay for something that I never receive, would I be wrong to expect a refund or replacement?
Storm clouds are gathering and several airlines might be grounded or cancelled if this keeps up.
