Former AMR chief executive Bob Crandall again stated that merging American Airlines with US Airways will make the Fort Worth-based carrier more competitive, but only if a pilot seniority agreement is in place before they form one company.

Too many what ifs, airways still has labor unrest that has been ongoing for years. The best time to discuss a merger is after exiting chapter 11 without going through a shotgun wedding.
Horton or Parker, is there really much difference,Parker talks a god game but so far Horton has improved AA's operation somewhat. Its a hard call to make as to who should take the helm at AA, but a merger while in chapter 11 will be hard to digest. There will be layoffs as at many airports there will be a duplication of ground personnel and combined ticket counters.

Just imagine the conversation. The worse airline pilot union (AA) in the US, trying to negotiate with the second worse pilot union (old USAir) while having to deal fairly with the old American West Pilots who have shown to be good in court and very strategic thinkers.
And, all this would have to be settled in 60 days or so. Good Luck!
Glad I started flying Delta!

There has been a law enacted since the TWA merger that governs how seniority is to be handled and eliminates the grandfathering of the US/HP issues. I believe AA pilots and other unions will follow Doug Parker and crew until they feel they are being lied to like AA Managers did... There is already an agreement in principle. The merger will happen after the BK because the judge won't be controlling the golden parachutes.... You don't need to be a high paid analyst to know human nature and what drives people... But I will let someone pay me as one

Out east maybe with the agents. However AA contracted out alot of it's ramp cities in the BK.. I know for a fact SAN and PHX at a minimum would be union staffed again in a merger. The TWU is on board

Put all the negro pilot's at the bottom of the seniority list. And send all the woman pilots back to their kitchens to cook for their men.
