Basically Delta has just forced Star Alliance and Southwest to respond to a competitive dressing down of their critical mass.

Alaska wants no part in a merger with anyone including Delta... I just wonder if Delta went into the Asian hub with foresight and thought, for if they did; they obviously missed out on the cause and effect results which could prove detrimental to DL and for that matter a freestanding independent AS which is the only thing they have professed to want all along.

Downgrades of Delta stock are most likely coming as significant risks are ahead, what ever options Delta may choose, in terms of exploring a merger with AS or going at it alone with their Seattle Pacific growth strategy.

Any looksie by Delta at a AS merger would result in

UA + HA
WN + B6
And even possibly an
AA + VX

WN UA DL or AA is about to get left without a bride. Really though critical mass has been achieved so it is the one world skyteam star alliance that only one airline is being left at the alter.

Let us see if this WN will maintain the critical mass, and yields to grow organically internationally.

Maximizing control of partners and inclusion or exclusion of Alliance Marketing partners is done only one way.

That one way is the M word. Pandora's Box has been breached now it just remains to be seen what long term strategies will be employed for AS B6 HA to remain independent and VX find a place.

HA maybe an exclusive marketing agreement with UA

AS a switch to WN, instead of DL for codeshare agreements and a ff international feed for AA out of SEA

B6 might pursue a JV with some North American International Carrier.

VX perhaps they will seek to join oneworld, sky team, and star.

Pandora... the gods knew you would open that box cause hope, charity, faith, and trust were also locked away with greed.

The redtails wrote the book on how you make cash in Asia, Delta bought the redtails, Delta knows how to make a buck, don't beleive me? check their 2013 profits they can pay cash for what ever they want if they want AS they will get them.

Really seems like Pandora's box has been opened by Delta saying join us exclusively Alaska or else.

Now Compass is being forced by Delta against SkyWest, and Envoy may become a factor in Seattle as Alaska has SkyWest ditch Delta or face any new and current flying being given to Envoy or someone else.

I think SkyWest has been suffering with too many 50 seaters, thus any loss of contractual flying would not be good.

Envoy could use the boost, while Compass, could face a significant budgetary risk by injecting itself into Seattle as Delta's concubine Geisha.

Interesting times!
