Since for cargo transfer from widebody to widebody the 767 757 series lower lobe containers are useless, should, Airbus reconstitute the 200 seat A310 line of aircraft.

787 in two classes holds over 280, compared to the 218 or so of a two class A310.

A321 NEO is good for many things such as a

727-200, 737-800, 737-900, A320, and a domestic 757 replacement. It is also being seen as more capable than the 737 MAX 8 / 9 and is therefore becoming a contender for an interim 737 MAX replacement.

Beyond 185 seats the MAX is not at all suitable, and the A321just barely as a medium haul 757 replacement.

Therefore a new generation A310, would quickly nix and eclipse, MAX 9 orders, take orders from the A321, and completely replace the 757, 767, A310 line.

If it could be done without a competitor coming in, ie Boeing and a 767 replacement then the market would be wide open. For Airbus there was really no room in the 757, 767, A310 battle the first time around.

Now with a mature A321 program in place. A new A310 should be gravy provided Boeing does not go 767 ballistic.

Long live the pax friendly A310, if we cannot have a new generation pax friendly 767-200.

Better yet, Boeing should just build a new passenger friendly 767 new wing and composite NEO MAX to replace the A310, 767, and 757-300

With the Boeing Air Astana talk of a 757 Successor, I think it is a bit of a tacit admission, the

737 MAX 8/9 won't cut it in terms of range, passenger appeal, operator flexibility in comparison to the A321 NEO.

Let's see if this "study" will thwart sales of the 321 until Boeing makes up its mind upon replacing the upper end of the 737 line and the lower end of the A310, 767-200, and 757-300 line.

Well the WestJet widebody order is a shocking damnation to both Boeing and Airbus.

737 MAX and Airbus A321 NEO won't cut it!!! With a widebody order' there is no reason the C Series, will not be a 737 potential replacement for WestJet too!
