Just wondering, can Crandall testify in the DOJ hearing when AA/UsAir present their arguments for the merger? Who better than Crandall to discuss the industry and the justfication for the merger than he?

They are trying to get the AG from Texas to support the merger. After it is approved they sub the heavy work out to the lowest bidder.

Bob Crandall was CEO a long time ago and the industry has changed a lot since his running AA.Already too many mergers have occurred reducing competition and options for flyers. The rise in ancillary fees is one of the greatest sources of income for the airlines.
Airline CEO's like to have less competition so as to be able to raise fares knowing they face little chance of other carriers dropping their fares. An airport that in the past might have had 3 or 4 carriers today might have 1 or 2 airlines, resulting in higher fares, less hubs to connect through and a smaller choice of flights.
