NO - That is not how it works

So if UA F/A's go to Express they lose their job?

So UA F/A's don't just get bumped to UA Express?

So if UA F/A's go to Express they take pay cuts?

So if UA F/A's go to Express they start over?

NO - and additionally all the "so ifs" are correct

YES - Outsourcing does affect mainline

Seems like there is something messed up in the airline industry, when one group of F/A's who wear United type Uniforms are hired yesterday, and get to continue to work, while another group of F/A's who wear United Uniforms for 2-3 years already, get put on the unemployment rolls.

Airline unions are so ineffective when it comes to SCOPE.
Government is just as ineffective and let this industry run amuck.

Sorry,

You probably know this already but they are separate companies. And separate seniority lists. What if a United pilot was furloughed and could go to United Express and jump right in the Captain seat there? Ain't gonna happen.

Separate companies. You are mistaken.

United Express is not even an FAA certificated airline like United is. Continental owned the Colgan plane that went down, much like United owns planes that some of the regionals fly as UA Express.

When a United Express, XYZ airline plane goes down, United will try and distance itself from United Express and its plane ownership by saying it was XYZ airlines.

While most passengers may not be savvy, of biz executives misleadings, some of us out there are trying to make it common knowledge so people make good air fare and career choices.

Owned, smowned. When you get hired at x company, you are on their seniority list. You can't just jump to the parent company. Or vise versa.

In the late 80's I flew for Comair. At the time Delta owned 1/5. I couldn't just say "I want to fly for Delta now!"

Later, Delta increased their stake in Comair to 100%. Comair pilots still could not jump to Delta. That's just the way it works.

I want to get this straight! United Airlines is trying to lay off the "685" but it isn't coming from the combined Flight Attendant worforce of UAL/ CO. They're targeting only the United Airlines group! Talk about messed up and corrupt! The media has it the junior people will be kicked to the street. We are talking about seniority of 8 years! People don't realize that we are all United working under our own individual contracts. THe company wants to shed itself as many original UAL employees as possible before proceeding with an combined contract. Furthermore if United had granted all the voluntary and partnership bids to begin with it would solve most of this issue! Now the CO side wants to be the savior of the furloughed F'a's and is offering them employment at the bottom of their seniority list as new hires! How in the world do you go get hired for United when you already work for them? Makes me sick! The media needs to know the TRUTH!

That means people of up to ten years or more of United Airlines seniority from UAL pre merger could be on

R E S E R V E

Bad reserve contracts can come up and hurt ya' senior folks at the last minute.

Ha ha !(;
KIDDING - bad reserve, helps no one including the airline

Ashly, one thing to consider is to step away from the politics of Union and Management. The crews have to fly their metal, so crew lists have to remain that way. Ask not who is right but what is the right thing to do. In this case the management did the right thing. Ask the union if there is a bigger cause , I.e. Politics bigger than its membership . The lag achy united work rules are from the eighties and archaic. Now would you own a business where you pay for work done right? I don't want to get into the middle of what contract is better. Just know United does not work for unproductive work force. Old contracts may have been sheltered in bankruptcy courts, but in the harsh reality of successful business models, expect to be paid fairly for work done.
