Business travelers who live and work in flyover country get steamed whenever business-travel talking heads start babbling about the Transcontinental Triangle, the rarified nonstop routes that link New York with Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Duh. The Transcon flier is a business traveler.. SFO or LAX to NYC is the same distance as NYC to Europe.. Therefore the battle is on for the very profitable business dollar. The only time the airlines embrace the saying "spend a buck to make two" is on the business traveler (Club lounges and long haul flights)

If the profit was that good on these routes, I can see UA converting their EWR/west coast to a similar product. Now that they've gone to 16 and 17 daily flights in the SF/LA market, they've probably got a few more empty seats.

NOVA/DC also has some big spenders and IAD might be prime territory for upgrading as well. 6 hours is a long time in any airplane.

You give me a fully reclining seat on a red eye, or a work table other then my tray table, a power outlet and Wi-Fi..6 hours will fly by. Why do you think companies allow people to buy business fares..Productivity. If you are stuck in Y with no room, kids and people going back and forth to the rest room you get nothing done... If you are working the whole time, or arriving refreshed and ready to work, it's on,,, and worth every penny
