She SHOULD have to buy two seats, as she is going to take up two seats.

I hate flying when I get stuck next to someone like that (I either get moved to a different seat or a different flight).

If I paid $200 for MY seat, and you're taking up 33% of MY seat, then I want $66 for the 1/3rd of MY seat your fat butt it taking up!

But of course, she can't sue because she is fat (yet...I see that coming sooner or later), but she can sue because she is not white.

What a crock...hope they nail her with attorney's fees when her BS lawsuit gets thrown out.

I am an african american woman and I was FORCED into sitting next to this white man on the plane and he weighed at least 400 pounds and he passed gas the whole flight while I was damn near SMASHED into the window by his fat a$$. He should have been forced completely off the plane. Not paying for 2 seats. He passed gas the whole flight and had what looked like dried blood on his face!! I nearly threw up! I have never been so horrified in my life. If you are overweight you SHOULD buy two seats if you cant fit in one without making someone else uncomftorable. If you are just plain gross like the man sitting next to me you should be escorted off the plane and possibly taken to jail for assault.

LMFAO

I feel for you, that was a terrible sounding experience.

I ride the train to work and I see people like that everyday. What gets me mad is that some of them are in a state of denial.

There is a seat about 1 foot wide, and some of them with a 21/2 foot wide toosh want to stick it in. One lady almost broke my leg with that thing, crushed me against the wall and said excuse me. I couldn’t get up if I tried.

If your fat and don’t know it this is how you can tell. If you get up and at least 2 people can sit down, comfortably, it’s diet time…

An immense person like that is a safety issue. What would happen if some sort of emergency came up? She could panic get stuck in the isle and half the plane could die!

ihave no problem making her pay for 2 seats, she using them.

we are actually saving gas for the airlines that way also.

meaning....... a 300lbs woman uses 2 seats, or 2 adults buy the 2 seats. those 2 adults have to weigh 150 lbs apiece or both of them will be over the 300 lbs she is,so hence the airline is saving gas, lighter flying.

I wish that I could see a picture of her but the article is no longer on the website. I think that its wrong to charge a person for two seats even if they are 500 pounds. They just should have a few extra seats thats made specially for larger passengers. Maybe a wide seat with no arms but they should definitly not charge them for two seats. They risk offending a customer and possibly losing a lot more money in the long run then that one extra seat would have gave them.

This is not uncommon for airlines to charge obese passengers for 2 seats. It's pretty much always been that way. Lose weight or don't fly. Simple.

If the women weigh more than 195lbs, which is winter weight for humans, than she will have to buy two seats. If she weighs more than 390lbs, then she have to buy three seats.

It is also a safety concern. If she were in the aisle, and the other passenger against the window, in an emergency she could prevent the other passenger from being able to make it to an exit.

What the money hunger airlines need to do is make the sits larger and ride less people per trip. You would complain about a doctor who scedule you and 10 other patients at the same time well this is the same thing.
this is already done...it's called way overpriced first class on another carrier. you should try it. spend $1000 for a seat that gets you to the same destination......but instead of 2 rows of 3 seats each, you get 2 rows, 2 seats each. you pay for that third seat honey! also this is nothing compared to a doctor....so don't insult us lol...the seats did not get smaller, we got bigger. before you know it, let's just have one seat on a plane, so you can have the whole plane to yourself, and the bathroom too! and you can foot the bill on that yourself too.

you pay for one seat. you get one seat. not the person sitting next to you. simple as that. i don't even know why a discounted second seat is expected. the airlines lose money to sell you that second seat at a discount. i don't know about you, but if i were an airline, i would rather sell 2 full price tickets than 1 full and one discounted right. so why should swa or anyone else have to suffer?
and for the other comment about the mom and her hips...maybe there was not a reason to mention it because the flight was not near full. because they knew there would be empty seats anyways so why make an issue. i bet when she says "does my butt look big in these jeans?" you answer, "no" wake up and smell the coffee....mama is big no need to sugar coat it. if the arm rests cannot go down, and you flow over to the next seat, mama or daddy need to purchase 2 seats...whether it's hips, shoulders, big head or whatever...you take up 2 seats, you pay for 2 seats.
you get 2 seats at discount rate, you should not be allowed double luggage allowance...and certainly don't need double servings of cokes and peanuts!

As embarrassing as it maybe, it's situations like this that the profession of travel agents come in - but since the invent of the internet and one able to purchase tickets from the comfort of their own home, stories as such will become even more frequent.

I thought the complaint was about obese people spilling over into your seat on the airplane. Now you're complaining about the smell of her perfume and the fact that she talked during the journey? Would you have complained about the perfume of a skinny person sitting next to you and the fact that they talked or do you just have a deep seated prejudice against large people in the first place, which really has nothing to do with the air-flight at all?

I think the problem are the courts to even allow this ridiculous lawsuit. I looked her up on google and found a picture of her and she is huge. Race has nothing to do with it. I would sue the airline if I am forced to sit next to a huge person that ruins my plane ride. If I pay for a seat I should be able to sit in it. I would be pissed if I had to sit next to someone who was huge and took up half my seat.

At an arena a huge woman sat next to my mother and she was half in her seat (my mother weights 92 pounds and is 4'10"). When my mother complained the lady yelled and said I paid for my ticket which my mother replied I paid for my seat and you paid for yours so get off mine. Finally the security people moved my parents close to the front which was better for them.

If you are embarrassed because you are forced to buy another ticked then how are you not embarrassed to go out in public. Loss weight and then there wouldn't be a problem. I mean they are talking about obese people not people weight 20 - 50 pounds overweight we are talking 100 + pounds. COME ON PEOPLE!!!

I see this on the train all the time. Some lady with a double wide backside trying to stuff herself in a spot with room for only one.

This lady stuck her buns in a seat and was crushing the man next to her, when he tried to get up she had him stuck it took a couple of tries for him to free himself. Then she had an attitude with him for getting up, and giving her the look.

And in a plain if you weigh twice as much as me then you pay double the fair!
