Horizon Air Engine Failure with Q400

A Horizon Air de Havilland Dash 8-400, registration N438QX performing flight QX-2281 from Seattle,WA to Eugene,OR (USA) with 62 passengers and 4 crew, was climbing through 10,000 feet out of Seattle's runway 34R when the crew declared emergency reporting an engine failure. The crew shut the engine down and requested delay vectors to run their checklists before returning to Seattle. The airplane subsequently landed safely on Seattle's runway 34R and taxied to the apron.
The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto the next flight.

Sounds like they did everything just right! About 22 years ago they had a Dash 8 with a major engine fire make an emergency landing at SEA. The pilots lost brakes and steering and the aircraft was not re-usable after running into parked aircraft and the terminal. Everyone got out just fine though.

Thank god they had white pilots at the controls.
Put two negros together, and they would have crashed. All would have been lost. But Horizon doesn't hire miniorities with high school diplomas and 350 hours total flight time.

Horizon Air is not in the same league as other regional airlines. Horizon Air is tougher to get in than Skyworst for pilots and have better benefits than most.
Its just one of those days, unlike Qantas.
