This is a new one I have heard but to me quite far fetched!
Kind of a way out for Delta and Alaska's pssing match! What would this be, something like a virtual joint venture?
All I can say is hmmm, but that would explain the continued rumor mill, and answer the question of where is the fire in regards to all that blowing smoke.
Smoke screen or smoke sheen!(:

Well to me that sounds like and overly complicated rumor, but where there is smoke there is often fire. A far more likely scenario would be
Alaska Air Group buys Delta Air Lines subsidiary Endeavor Air (The Old Pinnacle Airlines) and merges it with Horizon and the new much bigger QX feeds as the:
- A la s k a - Banner in the Northwest, the Delta
- C o n n e c t i o n - Banner in the Northeast, and the American
- E a g le - Banner in the Southwest
Delta Air Lines buys Alaska Airlines and merges it with Delta, and DL expands West While Alaska Air Group - in particular QX - expands Northeast, Northwest, and Southwest.
Alaska Air Group investors are happy, Alaska Air Group (QX) expands,
Delta Air Lines investors are happy, Delta (DL) expands.
Actually though, either scenario is very far fetched, and I personally see this or any other scenario as nothing more than a stock traders, million dollar wet dream in the hopes of striking it big on a specualtive trade or asset bubble they may be attempting to manipulate or create.
Examining all possibilities and speculations of cause and effect, are always interesting though, but for any airline to get involved with any less than 100 seat Regionals Carriers right now is almost shear lunacy unless there exists a compelling case that vast amounts of dollars are going to be made in any deal. Delta and Alaska are just not stupid companies, nor are their investors, so personally I do not see them shooting themselves in the foot with stupidity on either side and missing out on profit and brand potential, as what seems to be commonly reported among the drive by media on an almost daily basis.

I don't think a joint venture of any sort would pass anti-trust muster, but SOMETHING'S going to happen.
AS and DL can't stay in thist pissing contest forever and AA/US isn't going to get frozen out of the West Coast.
