UPS is a HORRIBLE place to work. They make their employees lives a living hell with intimidation, threats, fear and degradation. The benefit package is great but if even one mistake is made during your workday it all disappears and you're kicked to the curb.

They have to offer substantial benefits or no one in their right mind would work there. I quit after my 5 years and I knew I was vested.

UPS is terrible. Lots of long term opportunities but only if one is brain dead and numb enough to endure the unbearable misery of their day-to-day existance in achieving them. I worked there three years and was promoted to manager. Problems stem from the teamsters union protection of those who should be fired, others having to take up the slack, management tactics of intimidation and not much else, new shipping innovations/mechanizations constantly placing the shops in chaos and a nearly non-existant training program for nearly any and all positions. Most of us were drawn by the outstanding healthcare but were quickly disillusioned and walked. I predict that the Union will either be voted out or UPS will plummet in that market within the next ten years.

UPS is a company that was founded almost 100 years ago. One of the best things about UPS is their promotion from with in policy. Everyone starts at the bottom, but before UPS would look off the street to fill a position, they will look internally. If you work for UPS, you will not be working a dead end job. There is a new contract that is going to go into place that, it will pay the UPS driver $28.05 per hour after 30 months driving. On a 40 hr work weak that is $58,ooo per year. That is before overtime. You add in the benefits, figured to be worth $50,000, you now have a position requiring no college education that could have a total compensation worth $130,ooo per year if you are working 50 hr work weeks. Sure, you will work hard. UPS has high expectations, they will push you. UPS, a great place to be.

Most major corporations with highly structured work environments tend to force employees to be obedient and regimented. They also tend to have so many rules that a human mind has no room for a thought of it's own.

Some safety manuals alone exceed 300 pages and every word should be known by the employee in case of an accident. It would seem that an intelligent person would trade the right to excerise their brain power for a good paycheck.

This seems to be an oxymoron that they would hire smart people just to memorize their rules and have no more thoughts while on duty. These types of jobs grow to be unrewarding, but the pay and benifits are usually high enough to eliminate a turn-over rate.

These problems seem to be through-out the trucking industry but also apply to many other jobs that are monotonous and limit personal growth.

So, does UPS suck or do they all suck?

ups is a great place to work.. where else can u come out of high school and gross 70 thousand a year????? and the part time benefits are great.. andit is very hard to get kicked to the curb with the teamsters union the power is in the people.. and yes it is hard work but what u expect.. u earn what u make... there are no threats at ups there are things called grievence forms u can fill out and upper mang. do not like these.. a union member has twice as much job security as your "boss".

During the next 5 days, UPS will supposedly deliver 240 packages per second world wide, I feel fortunate to be a part of something that has such a impact on the world. Am I brainwashed, not at all. I still see the crazy politics in UPS, just like they are in any other company. What I respect is a blue collar job where someone can come in, with out a big time last name, with out a $80,000. education, simply through hard work, they can make something of themselves. I think there needs to be more companies out there like UPS.
