Kraft Shedding Post Cereals Business
#1 Nov 15, 2007
People have a very short memory.
Ralcorp is actually Ralston Foods, who used to be Ralston-Purina, makers of lots of name brand breakfast cereals. After Purina/Nestle spun them off, they sold their cereal brand names to General Mills, and continued to produce the products under the generic store brands. The author is way off based in saying that generic brand will have trouble incorporating a name brand.

This is serious. The consolidation of the breakfast cereal industry is going to lead to fewer choices and higher prices for consumers. It will probably lead to a higher childhood obesity rate with more use of high-fructose corn syrup.
I'm outraged! Where's Blumenthal on this!?
