Union served there purpose, now they are antiquated. The Government with OSHA, MSHA, labor boards, etc has taken the role of protecting the American worker from abuse.
Today the free market does a good job of determining wages of non union workers and truly skilled workers are always in demand.
Unions should go the way of the dinosaur.

So flour sack dumpers are entitled to big pay?
What a laugh
These dumbos could go to a community college to increase their employment skill levels
Nope though...they say they are entitled
No wonder CEOs dont want to pay taxes
Why pay for a lazy class of misfits

I think you'll see more companies restart without union labor in the future.
Unions are a thing of the past as a previous poster said, they served their purpose.
The mafia was hand and hand with the unions because they were both crooked, the Government cracked down on the mafia but turned their back on the dirty union bosses because they keep their campaign coffers full of money.
Glad to see the unions go or lose power and don't let the door hit your butt on the way out.

I have followed this whole thing unfold very closely. It was fascinating to see the dialog between the Teamsters and BCTGM members on (before the message board there was taken down). I have concluded that the union workers of today feed on hate - hate toward corporations and even hate toward each other. Unions were indeed needed many decades ago, and as an American worker I am grateful for the brave men and women who stood up to unchecked corporate corruption. I know that union folks refuse to accept it, but organized labor in the world of today does more harm than good to the collective "we" of hard-working Americans. The Hostess story is a great example of how unions (and the hate they breed) do nothing more than encourage selfishness and inefficiency. I wish the new owners (and the non-union workers they have hired) all the best as they seek to restore these brands to profitabilty and stability.

the doc told me not to eat that kind of crud a long time ago anyhoo. Working Rocky Mount with half a crew was intolerable, the union had recently made a huge giveback, you know the rest.....

This is a good example of how bad unions can mess up a good thing.
I have seen several corporations close a plant down because the unions placed unreasonable demands and threatened strikes if they weren't met. If they did meet the demands the plant would not be profitable so they close it down and move it to Mexico so they can continue to make their product and make money.
Unions destroyed American manufacturing.

Its seems that Brian doesn't mine working for 3rd. world pay and no meaningful benefits. He apparently doesn.t know much about history. It was Unions that build the middle class and made this country great. it was in Nazi Germany who also thru trade unionist into concentration camps. Now its this bullshit "new world order" that is eliminating good paying American jobs. If this trend continues no one will be able to afford a house, a new car, etc. So think before you talk brian. oh, as far as the new owners of Hostess cakes, they can stick there profits up their yen-yen.
Brian is a dipshit who doesn't realize that weekends, vacations, lunch breaks, and every other benefit any worker has left in America is thanks to Unions. He hates the American Dream and would rather be live in El Salvador.
