Local bakery fires suspected illegal immigrants

There are 20 comments on the www.mysanantonio.com story from Feb 22, 2011, titled Local bakery fires suspected illegal immigrants. In it, www.mysanantonio.com reports that:

Lone Star Bakery in China Grove fired about 200 employees last week after learning they were in the country illegally, a company official said.

The company, which employs about 500 and provides baked goods to food service operators and restaurants, underwent an audit by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement last year, said Kay Grimes, Lone Star Bakery's corporate attorney.

When ICE came back Feb. 2 with a list of about 200 employees who were suspected of being in the country illegally, Lone Star had two weeks to prove they were eligible to work in the U.S., fire the employees or face criminal charges, Grimes said.

What the government didn't give them work permits and drive them back to work. The feds must be slipping I guess they ran out of green cards. This is a dog and pony show. The "undocumented workers" will get papers and be back to work in no time at all. If you do not deport or seize assets then this is a JOKE. Gee been here 15 years we never knew, just commiting fraud for 15 years. It pays to be illegal just ask congress.

So why are these 200 illegal aliens not facing deportation and criminal charges for using fraudulent and/or stolen documents? I am sure most will be back working as soon as they buy/steal a new identity.

So, these illegals are fired but can disperse and either return or pop up somewhere else. Sounds like a "Shell game" to me.
The employer suffers no consequesces after 15 years of employing these people? Looks like a revolving door to me.
After all is said and done here what has been gained?
Sorry, didn't mean to insult anyone's good sense here with that last question, we all know the answer to that question don't we?
US Citizen, agreed, an epic dog and pony show!!

Yeah well, San Jose' Calif. Police Chief Chris Moore put a stop to his officers from impounding cars when UNLICENSED illegal alien drivers were nabbed for minor traffic violations...as he felt they were targeted..what? why? http://www.mercurynews.com/rss/ci_17445138... They are here illegally..and driving without a license..O.K. so don't impound the car..DEPORT THEM, instead!!As for the bakery workers that were fired for being illegal aliens..The article says that there is no indication that they will be detained or deported..guess they're going to be left here to suck off our country some more. Thanks Obama.

I think ICE will be picking up these people for using SS numbers. They could not tell them you all are being deported, they all would run away. Stay home and look for another job and we won't bother you, then knock knock, who is it? ICE, ICE who?

If they were smart, they would be moving now.

<sarcasm> Oh no, the government cannot give them work permits until they have been arrested for some other crime and released on bail awaiting trial... </sarcasm>

What ICE has to do is go there, have a bus in the parking lot, lock down the building and anyone whose papers do not seem on thje up and up are detained for a deeper check. None of this give warning crap. Alternatively, the employers audit the books at the request of ICE, do not tell the employees and then call ICE with the results so they know who to come in and get.

And did he not just before that create the all children will be educated in public schools which had a HUGE loophole - it was ALL children and not limited to legal US citizens and legal immigrants/legal aliens here on visas for say work. It was all children. Add in the amnesty bill... hindsight is 20-20...

Grimes said there's no indication the former employees will be detained or removed from the country.

Pretend enforcement.

Obama is just rearranging illegal aliens.

These individuals should have been arrested on the spot and processed for deportation. The bakery should have been finded for each Illegal Alien they hired.

Let's look at one of the employees a bit more closely...

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/a...

One of those employees, who asked for anonymity for fear of prosecution, said she came to the U.S. on a tourist visa seven years ago and took a job at the bakery. Her two daughters one is 7 years old and the other, 9 months were born here, the woman said.

1) You cannot work (legally) with a tourist visa, meaning she had forged paperwork or the bakery shrugged at federal laws.
2) Kid is seven-either she was pregnant when she entered the country,or became so soon after;I'm betting on the first scenerio.
3) Knowing she was an illegal and subject to apprehension and deportation, she merrily kept breeding.

The article is going for sympathy for the breeder, but failed to elicit any from me.Bet mama used name 'Maria Rojas' for work, and 'Ana Gomez' for WIC/Medicaid/free school meals/subsidized housing applications.

If the lady in the story with the two anchor babies want's to stay why didn't she take action to get the status? To come in on a tourist visa that expires and you remain is criminal. I wonder how long it took the bakery to fill the vacancies.

All I can say to this is that when the local Chipotle was "audited" for illegals, it has not shut down. Still up and running, no break in service. They are either all legally employed or there were others waiting in the wings for the jobs. We have not had one business, even Latino or Immigrant ones close just because of crackdowns or audits of books.

I don't think anybody has been arrested or deported either. It amounts to no more than an inconvenience for illegals and employers and an added cost to the American taxpayer.
I wonder when they will start notifying undocumented pharmacists about "audits" days before they show up.
