MATTOON, Ill.(AP)- General Electric says it will add more than 150 jobs at three factories in Illinois and Ohio to meet what the company says is increased demand for alternatives to traditional incandescent light bulbs. Part of that includes a new deal with Walmart.

The company said in a news release today that it will add 70 jobs in Bucyrus, Ohio, east of Mansfield, and 50 in Circleville, Ohio, south of Columbus. GE will add another 30 jobs at a Mattoon, Ill., plant that makes halogen bulb components.

GE said it has reached an agreement with Walmart to stock bulbs from the three plants. Extra production will begin next year.

The company says demand for the bulbs has been unexpectedly high as incandescent bulbs are phased out through federally mandated energy-efficiency requirements.

I know what you meant, and no it would be better with no tiers. We do the same work, and we should get the same pay. I can't tell you how many of the 2nd tier people started with the thinking of it is better than nothing, but later resent the fact that they do the same job and get paid less.

yes you are right . the sad thing is the union was for equal days pay for equal days wages . that's what the union was originally for . now they just take the 2nd tiers $ for no reason . the equal pay was lost . but they still get there $$$$$. its the nation they are doing this crap in every faucet of employment . not just ge ...

So sad that GE has came to all of this. 22 years ago or longer couldn't ask for a better job and a place to work. GE took care of their employees, but not these days. Sad

""EdisonReport can confirm that GE Lighting has laid off 50+ people globally. We confirmed this layoff with current and soon-to-be-former employees. In addition, we received the following statement from Nela Park: "In the course of conducting business, GE Lighting continually reviews and evaluates its operations on a regular and global basis. This includes analysis of costs to ensure operations are in line with business performance and market environments. Due to softness in markets and a number of other external factors, GE Lighting has announced to employees it has become necessary to reduce global employment and has communicated this to those impacted. The action will help to more closely match this business to our evolving customer needs."
We were told that affected employees had access to the GE Network of jobs in an effort to match people with job opportunities within different divisions of GE. We were not given information as to the break down of field positions vs Nela Park positions, nor were we give a breakdown of sales positions vs. non-sales positions.

Good Luck to the union members who will vote on the proposal. Be prepared for hatred from your fellow employees and former friends.
