This is so exciting! The Macy's and Bloomingdale's names are already known worldwide because thy are two of the best brand names in retailing. It's absolutely wonderful that those outside the USA will have the pleasure of the "Magic" and the "Like no other store in the world" experiences. WOW!

Andy, and then you woke up! Please, just keep on drinking the Kool-Aid at corporate.
Alphony, stINK and Martha Stewart all will do well in the third world. Macy's, America's Bargain Basement Bin and the laughing stock of retail.
Let's see how this weeks corporate earnings announcement are received???Let's see what excuses Lunkhead makes for missing estimates??

Didn't we see this all coming for years now??  I can't help but laugh when I see the hundreds of strip malls in my area that are now going to go under.  It was fast money for greedy developers at the time, I guess! It sure ruined some beautiful landscape that is now covered with concrete and neon signs, though.

Also, Macy's is delusional if they think they offer any unique, quality merchandise that would bring in international customers.

Now they can go make as big a mess in other countries as they have already done here.

Haven't heard from you in a long time, but do your bosses having you trolling the Net for any story?

One of the first things I learned in marketing class is that you have to know the local market, including its culture. The class included studies on such things as how WalMart was not French enough for Argentina (strange, but true) and didn't understand their food shopping habits.

Now we have Macy's, who didn't understand Chicago at all, and thought it could shove its homogenized Cincy-NY shopping experience here and a lot of other places where it was not successful. Lundgren is delusional if he thinks it will work overseas. Other countries have plenty of other merchants selling Chinese goods.

H & M is already world-wide, and way more fashion forward than Messy's could ever be. Good-bye Messy's way to flop!

Sure, maybe Macy's can try to peddle its crap overseas -- anything is bound to beat their sales here in the Midwest, after they took over, and ruined our Marshall Field's!(State Street sales down +70% alone.)

After all, who needs Harrod's or Selfridges, or KaDeWe when he can shop at a Macy's and revel in the haute couture of their "Donald Trump Collection" or the wares of Martha K-Mart Stewart! Or "Alfani" for that matter! Ha! Shopping carts anyone? How about those groovy price scanners. What class.

I think the rest of the world gladly join Chicago in Boycotting Macy's once they see what a junk shop it is.

Oh and Andy, please pass me your bong. That blueberry haze you're smoking must be absolutely fabulous!

This is a "fake" press release. Macy's is just trying to get some positive press in the Chicago papers because they are doing so horribly. I went to Yahoo! Finance and Google News and didn't see any press release about Macy's looking at international expansion. If this was real wouldn't they want to get the word out? Wouldn't they have a PRNewswire release for the financial sites? This is a desperate attempt by Macy's to get some press. They're suffering in the Midwest (Chicago, Minneapolis, and Detroit) and they are about to shut dozens of stores.

Next to go?
Northbrook Court - Closing?
Vernon Hills - Closing?
Woodfield Furniture Store - Closing?

Macy's has failed in Chicago. Plain and simple.

Macy's has not been able to turn things around because they care little about quality customer service. The turn things around, they need to look in the mirror and looks at themselves, and not look overseas.

If Macy's can't even figure out how to make it in Illinois, how on earth do they expect to make it internationally?

Excuse me, Art Vandalay from Elgin, but you seem to be missing the point. I doubt the other posters have "votive candles" to Fields in their homes. Fields seemed to have a better idea how to cater to Chicago-area tastes, since Dayton-Hudson at least seemed to make some effort to target Midwestern shoppers. Macy's management is clueless. They are not listening to their customers, and if they can't do that here, they won't be able to do it there, whether they call their stores Bloomingfails, Messy's or anything else. It's not just the name-change here, it's what happened along with it. But since you never shopped at Field's in the first place, and there are no Macy's or Bloomingdales in Elgin, you wouldn't know what anyone else is talking about, anyway. So why are you even bothering to post?

Why post yourself?

1. If he lives in Elgin, Woodfield isn't that far away. You can take a bus there, even. Also, people used to take the train downtown to shop at Marshall Fields. They don't do that to go to Macy's.

2. As frequently demonstrated, Topix doesn't know form where a poster is. I don't live in Hanover Park and my web server isn't there either.

The pot calling the kettle ....

I used to work at the State Street store and sales are still down! Even the managers would mention sales were down 70% in this store. The hostile takeover was a dismal failure.
