So, I stated the following and am awaiting an explanation...
Why does this have to be soooooo confusing!!!!!!!!!!
I filed using taxact and owed almost 1800 (my fault, claimed too many exemptions through the year). I paid with a credit card to file and entered my direct deposit info. in for my checking account for them to take the money out that I owed them on April 15th which of course they did.
The direct deposit information you enter is from lines 73-75 and this is all under the title "REFUND" on the 1040 form. This WAS entered!
The next block down is "AMOUNT YOU OWE" and is lines 76 and 77. which has the amount I owe in it.
The last big block has the title "Not required to file a 2007 tax return but want to receive an economic stimulus payment"
About 2/3 the way down it states "IF you would like your economic stimulus payment direct deposited to your checking or savings account, complete the information below; otherwise the IRS will may a check" (the information below refers to the exact same information asked for on line 74a where you fill in your checking/savings account info.)
Nowhere that I can find on Taxacts site does it state that you won't get the money direct deposited if you owed. The ONLY thing they state is....
"PLEASE NOTE:
If you chose the option to have your TaxACT filing fees deducted from your refund, the IRS sent your income tax refund to Republic Bank. The transaction fees and TaxACT's product fees were then deducted, and they forwarded the balance of your refund to your bank account.
Because the IRS is not working through the 3rd party banks to process the Stimulus Payments, you will receive yours by paper check.
This does NOT apply to me so you would naturally think that I would get mine direct deposited ($1800).
Of course I have checked on the IRS site with my SS# and the correct info. and get the standard "we're sorry" etc.... no info. message.
From what I am gathering reading endless messages and comments, if you owed and paid you are out of luck on a direct deposit EVEN THOUGH YOU PROVIDED THE NECESSARY INFO. UNDER THE REFUND LINES ON YOUR 1040!
However, I am guessing that IF you filled in the very last part titled "Not required to file a 2007 tax return but want to receive an economic stimulus payment"
where it asks for your bank info. you WOULD get the money direct deposited.
Why would ANYONE think you had to do this UNLESS you met the criteria of not having to file?!
I have read on some posts on different sites or tax software companies or IRS saying something about you having to provide the IRS with the info. again somewhere when you did your taxes to get the direct deposit stimulus money direct deposited if you owed.
I know it's too late now but can anyone tell me where this info. went because I can't figure it out unless it was at the very bottom which shouldn't unless you didn't have to file! Ugh Ugh Ugh!!!
What are you referring to when you say "manually enter the bank information on your return"? Are you saying not e-filing or are you saying somewhere other than lines 73-75 which I did on my e-file?
I owed tax but paid the whole thing through my checking on April 15th that they direct "debited".
From what I gather, you are saying that no matter what I did, since I owed and paid in full with no issues whatsoever, e-filing made it impossible for me to receive the stimulus money direct deposit. So anyone who owed anything whether it be 5 or 5000 and paid on the 15th of February or 15th of April and e-filed, they have to wait for a paper check.
Is this correct, Pete

P.S. When I say "owed", we are NOT talking about back-taxes but just didn't have enough taken out during 2007.

If these people are stupid enough to let H+R block and other tax companys give them a loan then H+R block and the others deserve to make lottsa money on there stupidity.

Why one earth would any person count this check before it arrives?
You couldn't manage your assets before and you can't manage them after the help arrives. |

I used Tax Act to do my 2007 taxes online. According to my SS# information and because I filed direct deposit, I thought I would be getting my stimulus payment by Friday May 16, according to the IRS schedule. I didn't receive anything and got to wondering about it. After some further research and reading I found that it might have been due to electing to have the fee taken out of my refund when I filed my taxes. I'm extremely disappointed if this is truly the case. The timing was really off. I need the money now and I'm hoping that maybe it's just a little late. If it comes in paper check form all I can say is that I hope it comes earlier then stated. The last two numbers of my SS# are in the upper digits. I'm hoping to just get some clarification regarding this matter. Thanks,
Bren R. |

Just to clarify, I am not referring to any kind of loan whatsoever and I am not in "need" of this money for anything.
I owe only on my house which I've had for 10 years and only have 10 left (refinance and paydown). I bought a 1 year old loaded Honda Pilot with cash 2 years ago. I am extremely responsible with finances and track everything. Because of this, I tried to track when I expected to receive the 1800. I would be a fool to let it slide when I am entitled according to the standards set forth. Do I not have a right to track this out? I would not post this unless I felt it might help someone else. I am awaiting response back from taxact and will repost what their answer is concerning the above post. |

K, here's taxacts answer confirming what I expected as far as if you owed...
Dear TaxACT(R) Customer: Per the IRS link below, if you want your stimulus payment direct deposited but are not expecting a refund on the tax return, you need to manually enter the bank information on the return. Otherwise, the IRS will just send a check. http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=179... If you owe tax on your return you are not eligible to file an Economic Stimulus Payments (ESP) return and therefore must paper file the return in order to manually enter the direct deposit information on Page 2 of Federal Form 1040 or on Federal Form 8888. As you electronically filed your balance due return you will receive a check for your stimulus payment. Thank you for using TaxACT. Please let us know if you have any further questions. |

Miss A you already have more money, that is why you paid more in taxes. You don't need a $600 rebate check, that is nothing to you. Lower income people need it. Stop being selfish. That is what's wrong with the economy now, the rich just get richer and the poor get poorer. What's wrong with lower income people getting help. I would rather my tax dollars go to help our fellow Americans than to be sent out to help other countries or help fund the war. Quit your whining and suck it up. |

Rebates checks whether direct deposited or sent by mail
should have gone out to the people who filed early, like in Jan. Those people are still waiting for theirs while late filers have gotten the rebate checks. To hoot with social security numbers...that's where the glitch lies!! |

I am one of the many who was bamboozled by H&R Block for their "refund anticipation loan" (my husband insisted that is what we did last year, which we didn't- we just had normal direct deposit)The preparer kept repeating that they cannot "guarantee" the money will be deposited in 8-10 days (as direct deposit states) unless we got the refund anticipation loan. The only different between the two was the FEES and the Delay in the economic stimulus check. Funny, H&R Block neglected to mention that this would affect the stimulus check...
