When I see complaints like this, it reassures me that our culture is doing pretty good. If the aggrieved have to search this far down the list to discover their next crusade, then we're doing OK.

They can't ban the word "midget!" How would people on TV ever refer to Al Franken again? "Marxist dwarf" is too nuanced and just doesn't have the same clarity as "mental midget."

Are there any little people reading this thread who want to post their feelings about this? When I was in school, we were taught that a midget was a little person whose proportions were similar to that of more normal sized people, while a dwarf had arms/legs that were proportionally shorter than average expected for their height.

In that sense, these terms more precise than "little person", I didn't know there were negative connotations associated with them.

Oh, for God's sake.

Midget, midget midget.

Turn the T.V. off if it offends you.

Baby Boomers like to pretend politically convenient inferiority complexes somehow over-ride the 1st Amendment.

It reads pretty clear to me "Congress shall pass no laws"

You are right. Dwarf is the proper medical term, while midget is the non-proper term used to discribe a dwarf that is of normal proportians.

The thing is that midget is not used in a hateful or meen way. it is just a word that describes a specific type of dwarf.

Went to high school with a "midget" only calling him that because that was the '70's. He seemed ok with that but it was only the '70s so we were not yet sensitized to the great harm we were doing by being politically incorrect.

Ths guy was a personality dynamo! He was smart, well-liked, outgoing, quick-witted and the real deal.

In gym class, in the locker room, he jokingly called himself "The Little Man With The Big Deal"

I predict that, on this web site comment section, someone will call people who are midgets victims. The perpatrators will be conservatives and the rescuetrs will be liberals and or journalists.
