Really.. Supply and demand, and market pricing. If the need for seats out paces the number of seats then the price goes up to maximize the revenue... Look at your gas pump.. What happens when fuel supplies drop? It's cyclical, when the prices are too high and demand drops the prices will drop as well

Supply and demand have nothing to do with gas prices. Supply is there and the cost of obtaining oil and shipping have not changed much. The oil companies have a monopoly and oil is the most needed commodity and they know it. They raise the price of gas by 10 cents and then lower it by 5 cents and the public feels good that the price has gone down. This up 10 and down 5 has been used by major oil for years now and they have trained the consumer to feel good about the small drops in prices while ignoring the large jumps.
Its all about greed and making the share holders happy, all millionaires who are immune to the high prices of oil. The economy is in the tank largely due to high cost of oil. Food, travel, manufacturing, home heating costs, have seen costs rise rapidly all due to high energy costs and the trickle down effect has been the poor economy.
The oil companies have found a fool proof way of expanding profits on a commodity that no one can live without no matter how it affects the average family.
