Interested to see if the flight was stabilized or if the crew tried to salvage the approach in the interest of avoiding a go-around.

Not sure if it's just bad luck or if the SW 'maverick' philosophy is catching up with them.

The Burbank runway overshoot that ended up inches from the gas pumps at a Chevron station across the street. The Midway overshoot that killed a passenger in a car on an adjacent street and now the LGA accident. Nose gear first doesn't sound like the result of a normal approach.

I think it's the military pilot mentality. They can put any plane anywhere. The problem is while the 737 gear is as strong as the F18's, that F18 is a lot lighter to start with.

Has anyone checked the Flight Aware flight tracker data for this segment on 7/22? If not you should. Apparently the flight was late!

Scheduled Departure from BNA 2:55 EDT - Actual 3:50 EDT

Scheduled Arrival LGA 5:10 EDT - Actual 5:41 EDT

Unacceptable for SWA's turnaround times. Pilot in a hurry to land and depart for the next segment?

We discussed this in previous posts when SWA decided to fly into the large congested airports.

Boys, welcome to the big show!

The WN pilots have always been known for their "Cowboy" attitude. Taxiing just below take-off speed, cutting in front of other airlines, requesting short but faster runways and high speed approaches with radical slowing to get to target speed. If you look at their record of running off runways, the deleterious effects of this John Wayne ("We'll get there if it kills all of us") attitude are very apparent.

OldCapt,

Plane came in too hot for landing on a short runway with the water staring you in the face. Choices, try a go around if you think it's not too late, or dump it on the runway and take your chances that Boeing designed this plane for Aircraft Carrier landings.

Too premature to accuse anyone about poor judgement. Was 'Wi Tu Late' at the controls?

If they land an airliner nose wheel first, hard enough to collapse it, what makes you think they'll run through the evac checklist correctly?

Go Arounds are free. No need to crash the airplane onto the runway. This is not the BIG WAR nor was it an aircraft carrier. Dozens of airplanes go around every day with no serious consequences. That is why you go around. We all have ended up on a screwed up an approach here and there in fact I remember going around in LGA once. We brief the go-around procedure every arrival for just this reason. We also practice it during recurrent training. The 737 normally lands with a nose up attitude around 5 degrees. 3 degrees nose down is a huge difference and not anywhere near normal.

Gary Kelly must have been in the cockpit-his wallet brought the nose down.

We had a saying in the Air Force. Why does it take a high school education to fix what a college education breaks? Have you watched SW pilots taxi? Have you seen them land compared to other pilots (except those employed by Asiana). It doesn't take a pilots license to see things aren't right. Do you manufacture glass? How do you know it will break when it lands on cement?
