By now insurance companies know every trick in the book. Unfortunately sometimes they are too late to prevent crime. Two elderly women in California befriended a homeless man, insured his life for a large sum, and then ran him over. The scam was exposed and the women convicted but the man died all the same.
In this British instance the death was faked, the fraud quite real.
There are people who set fire to their houses for insurance money in what they hope is undetectable arson. No wonder that forensic science has become increasingly sophisticated.
