I've been a customer of HSBC in Australia for around 5 years, ever since they opened their fantastic Online Savings account with high interest and fee-free banking options. In the past year, though, their quality of service has seriously deteriorated, and now apart from much longer waiting times to talk to staff on the phone, all calls are handled by Indians who apparantly have no authority to handle any complaint resultion process (refunding fees, doing anything other than justify the Bank's position). If you're looking for a cheap banking option, beware that hidden fees and bad customer service come as part of the package with HSBC.

I totally agree with you. I had been a customer for about 10 years, 8years with HSBC offshore in Jersey and 2 years with HSBC Australia when i moved here. The service is the most appalling that I have encountered in comparison to every other bank i have been with including 2 in third world countries. I finally had enough and closed my account last month and moved to Commonwealth Bank who have been fantastic thus far.

Wow, I was looking at joining HSBC for my wife in Thailand, as I am in Australia, this appears to be the only bank that provides a service between the 2 countries. I might give it a miss, maybe western union is the go, ant advice or tips would be appreciated

i am a former hsbc employee thru the beneficial finance consumer lending division in the united states. they shut us down in april. it is not at all shocking that you are having these issues. we had the same problem getting interoffice issues solved....everything is in india now.

My home mortgage was bought out by HSBC Mortgage Services, USA. They had a nasty practice of calling to remind me that I need to pay my note.....about a week before it was actually due, right up until my payment was confirmed. And even AFTERWARDS, I'd have to field calls because the records were never immediately updated... Being treated like an irresponsible six year old isn't my idea of customer service....it's more like customer harassment. I hope HSBC goes down in flames.

To Whom It May Concern:

HSBC is spending billions of dollars on a charm offensive to convince you to bank with it. At airport terminals around the world and in slick magazines, HSBC says they care about what we value and they are "the world's local bank."

HSBC Offshore (Jersey) wants you to believe that your personal data is safe and your banking details are confidential with them.. HSBC is selling its customers out. This blog blows the whistle.

The truth is that HSBC spreads misinformation about customer credit risk and then refuses to discuss its allegations by hiding behind HSBC Terms and Conditions. It cuts its customers off without explanation.

HSBC is so big now that they can afford to abuse and lose any single customer for no reason or any reason.

If you are a past or present employee or client of HSBC Jersey please step forward and share what you know.
