tobacco and cigarettes sell. As does alcohol. They're money makers. Business is business

Walgreens is a store. It's not only a pharmacy. So what if we sell alcohol, tobacco, etc. If you don't want it then don't buy it. However, many customers do want it. Why infringe on convenience for others? By the way, who cares what the AMA,AHA,APA and any other lobbying organization has to say. They all have their own motives and agendas. Let people make their own decisions and cut the "fake outrage".

How can Walgreens campaign on " WELLNESS" when it sells cigarettes & alcohol??? Its more like "Get drunk & get lung cancer" than "BE WELL" !

Seriously, does anyone think Walgreens gives a hoot about anyone's health or well being???

True, but Walgreens is a convenient store. It should be a personal choice if a person wants to purchase these unhealthy items. Sure, as a healthcare oriented company I think they can offer more services to help people stop smoking. However, I don't think they should completely stop selling cigarettes and alcohol. They bring in money and ultimately that's a purpose of a business.

So if it is a business , stop pretending to care about people's wellness. Stop saying "Be well" Say, we are @ the corner of making money & more money.

Age 18: starts buying tobacco from Walgreens

Age 45: same person is now filling 6 scripts a week at their local walgreens (due to nicotine/smoke inhalation compromising health) and in addition this person finally starts buying niccorette/smoke busters from walgreens to offset his cig addiction.

All this time whose winning? thats right

All businesses do it. It's marketing. I don't think that there's much belief that they do care about 'wellness' but it's important to make it look like they do. They sell tobacco and alcohol for the same reason that Walmart has their $4 list - to get people in the doors.

News flash, not everything sold in a pharmacy makes you well. That includes behind the counter. This is America, the land of choice. Inform but don't impose.

I understand that we well cigarettes and alcohol to make money. It is just that selling those items and then touting that Walgreens is at the corner of "happy and healthy" seems hypocritical.

As for the argument that other stores do it so we should do it too, I present the following rebuttals:

1) If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?(Variations of this question were used by my parents on various occations.)

2) Two wrongs don't make a right.(Also, used by my parents on various occasions.)
