Bought an HD TV antenna, get Channels 3 and 10 perfectly. Baltimore, Harrisburg and beyond is clear, but no Channel 6. House sits at 620' elevation with wide open fields around. Still no reception. What is 3 & 10 doing that 6 isn't?

WPVI 6 (ABC) broadcasts in a VHF signal. Most of the other stations including NBC/WCAU 10 and CBS/KYW 3 broadcast in UHF.

"NBC/WCAU 10 and CBS/KYW 3 broadcast in UHF."
UHF begins at channel 14 and goes up from there.

VHF was from 2-13 and UHF was from 14-69 with analog TV. This is not the case after the digital transition.

6 ABC is a FREE Over The Air broadcast station. You are not suppose to need cable in order to receive it. And the smart comments about having computers is uncalled for. Maybe we had our computers before the digital conversion, did you ever think about that. Not all people want or can afford to have cable. Or maybe we just don't watch enough TV to justify the cost of cable. So put that in your hat and chew it.

You have cable and internet and yet you have a comment for this topic. You should find better ways to spend your time.
If you feel like paying for cable, kudos to you.

I just cut my cable. Comcast was the only option and it was too expensive. I was an EXCLUSIVE WPVI 6 viewer. Since they refuse to keep to their FCC license agreement and broadcast Over The Air, I won't be able to watch them anymore.
I am saddened by this, but I'll have to get use to it as my budget means I'll not ever have cable again.
Channel 6 must really hate the poor.
I'll watch CBS NBC,and Fox from now on.
no channel 6 steve

So, apparently Channel 6 is hawking their new "watch us anywhere" app through the end of June. After that, you MUST have cable to use it (or DirecTV). Meanwhile, digital signal is still non-existent for anyone within range of their station. Are they getting kickbacks from providers? Other areas of the country get ABC digitally just fine. But, not us. The digital converter can't even find a weak signal for them. So, how is it that they can get away with this for FOUR years now without the FCC stepping in - since it was the FCC that mandated it?

I know what you mean. Why doesn't the FCC do something? But, I'll be damned if Fox is where I'll turn.

I refuse to pay cable or satellite service. It's way too expensive and a waste of money. Why pay for TV and sill you are not watching all these channels. Lets be realistic. Buy a HDTV antenna for your local free channels. If you subscribe with Netflix, Huluplus & Amazon instant video you get to watch tons of movies, TV shows, games & more extremely cheap. If you subscribe to Crackle you won't pay a dime, it's free. Even ABC programs are available. Switch over and save your money.

I am 22 miles NNE from WPVI transmitter and cannot get a signal using an amplified antenna directly aimed at the Roxboro antenna farm. It does not matter as we really do not miss ABC content. There are plenty of stations providing quality news, sports, movies with the mains giving 1080i and sub channels 480i.

I get Channel 6 once in awhile, but most of the time its just a weak signal. I have a old roof antenna on my shed roof and have no trouble getting over 55 Channels including spanish and korean, but no channel 6. My wife watches the soaps and she goes to the library to get movies.
It does'nt cost me a dime but I sure woul like to see channel 6 news.

Yes, also PBS Channel 12 WHYY was broadcast in VHF prior to the digital conversion. However, after the digital conversion the analog signals ceased to exist and most Philadelphia area viewers cannot pick up 6 or 12.

From what I understand, back before the digital conversion, the network affiliates got to choose their signal. WPVI, in an effort to try to stay ahead of the curve, basically "lept without looking" and chose a signal that they didn't find out was weak until it was too late. It's the equivalent of marrying in Vegas after knowing your girlfriend for 5 hours. What it boils down to is a great big mistake on their part that they're locked into. Whether its reversible, nobody knows. If the Philly area is the only area affected, they may be thinking like this: Let's see, only 10% of homes don't have cable, and only 20% of those watch WPVI. Is the cost of fixing this problem worth the added advertising revenue by getting a spike in viewership of only 2% of the population? So far, their answer is no.
