COPART IS A LEGALIZED CHOP SHOP...it is a complete scam unless you are looking basic parts. Even then anything decent or worth value is stripped, airbags missing with covers glued back on, tire sensors...good luck ..all will be missing as with any electronics..JUST DONT BUY THERE..and good luck talking to management..especially when they are the ones bidding against you with phoney bidder #'s...its a complete disgrace to the auction industry...it will be shut down

The only thing copart has going for it is the VB2 auction technology. There is better out there-Live Global Bid, but its simple and works. Salvage gal = damage control for copart. do you think a yard girl can write like that? too late anyway, copart has screwed over too many loyal buyers and they are now going elsewhere. Adesa's purchase of IAAI will be a blessing for real salvage buyers looking for accurate representation of their purchases. Note to copart coporate-accurate condition reports and proper disclosure = happy buyers = repeat buyers = increased market share. YOUR COMPLETE LACK OF RESPECT FOR BUYERS IS VERY SHORTSIGHTED AND WILL BE YOUR DEMISE. SELL VB2 AND GET INTO THE HIGH RISK MORTGAGE GAME-SUITS YOUR CORPORATE PHILOSOPHY MUCH BETTER AND PEOPLE WILL EXPECT THE LIES.

That is the definition of "Run and Drive" nothing more. No, The car would not crank up with a jump.So obviously it cant move under it's own power. can it....

As for the 2nd part of your comment we try and try and try beyond business hours beyond what is expected of us I swear we work for nothing less than 100% accurate representation of the cars. The GM's of the yards are there for hours after we close and before we open going over and over the sale lists to get them exactly right. There is extremely high volume and some of the resales from dealers fool us no doubt but it is sweat not dishonesty that runs the company. The horror stories on here are exceptions (not to mention gross misunderstandings)- not the norm. Of course Copart has redeeming qualities or they wouldn't be in business for 25 years, and there would be 30,000 buyers complaining and taking their business elsewhere instead of 10. Have we hit a record for the longest running thread on Topix yet?

There is one car that we have bid on for the last four weeks, each week it is sold but it ends up on the auction list somehow the next week. We purchased this vehichle last week for $925 and had a maximium bid that was higher than that. But we did not get the car and it is on the list for next week even though we purchased this car. I have seen many instances where a car has been sold one week and then the next week it is on the sale sheet again. A lot of times it won't bring half as much as it did the week before. I heard a story about a rebuilder who copart claims has bought vehichles even though he never placed a bid. last week copart told him to pick up three vehicles that he purchased. He was out of town all week and was never on his computer. This is not some sort of computer malfunction or customers not picking up their cars because adesa, iaa, and other yards do not have this problem. If you hate them so much why do you, and I quote you " MY BUSINESS BUYS A LOT OF CARS FROM COPART"??? HELLO?????

Hard to believe they sold a vehicle without an engine maybe the body parts were so nice that you could buy another wrecked one with a good engine and put them togeather, i got 5 ford contours svt's from copart and built 3 out of the 5 sold extra parts and 2 of the 3 ended up 1,000 cash over what we spent and a 2000 contour SVT free and that includes paying labor cost to my employees

I do too hate copart.
Why, I bought a vehicle from them that said. RUNS & DRIVES (verification) They put that little logo on the add It was clean title w/ little miles.
Now when I get the car, yes it turns on, but the engine has a loud knock and the engine will blow if you drive it over a mile.....
It was my fault for not inspecting it before bidding, but since it is not my account I can't go into the facility to inspect the vehicles.
Copart should NOT put RUNS & DRIVES If you read the runs & drives diclaimer it basically tells you that it doesn't mean anything and that it doesn't have to run and drive.
Thats some bullshit, if the disclaimer is that harsh then they shouldn't put that logo on.
Dealers cover up seriouly damaged cars w/ quick fix and put them on copart, and they also do partial repairs and list them on copart.
The dealers and the scammers, not copart, but copart does allow them to rip everyone off, and doesn't do anything to them.
Copart should give sellers user names just like ebay and start a feedback system
That way those who rip people off won't get away w/ it anymore.
Now don't get me wrong, I still buy at Copart, but not unless I inspect them before, It is a hard process since I cannot go in by myself, but I have to wait till the account owner has time to take me in....
So yes, I too have a love hate relationship w/ copart. They are the biggest in the world, but they have alot of room for improvement

I bought a van that was listed in the drive trough line. It was listed as verifed runs and drives. When I went with my wife to pick it up the van would not start. The fact was the engine would not turn at all. I contacted the original owner of this vehicle and he stated that the van could not be started after the accident. When I talk to the manager he told they check them when they enter the yard. He never wanted to verify the true state of this vehicle. So now I am stuck with it. this is a total misrepresntation of the vans condition. It is fraud, they do this to get more money for the sale. Annoyed wrote: I have worked for Copart for over 3 years and Copart would MUCH rather try to disclose more damage than you can see so they don't have to hear complaints. They never try to "hide" or "be sneaky" about damage on a car. Why would they do that?- They don't care how much a vehicle sells for! At the yards they break their backs to make sure the inventory is as accurate as it can be. If you paranoid bunch of lazys are looking for some kind of corrupt conspiracy to explain why you get ripped off, look at how much effort YOU are putting into your salvage buying. Copart can't do ALL the work for you. What did you do 10 years ago when they used to hardly disclose any info about the cars? It was like ENGINE: Y TRANS: Y and thats all you got... What did you do when you couldn't bid from your office? Or when there were only 5 pictures? Or when you had to buy junk cars from your inbred neighbor? They have brought salvage buying a long way. It's not an easy business to be in. I would LOVE to hear your suggestions of how a salvage yard should be run. And please be realistic... the yard guys can't be high paid qualified mechanics crawling up under unsafe leaking scraps of metal. Seriously.

Runs & Drives = Bullshit they should get rid of those words all together thats the only thing that I can blame copart for, those little stupid, meaningless emblems and notices they put. Like RUNS & DRIVES, and ENGINE START PROGRAM
they should make one that says Partially Repaired, or Quick Fixed to Hide Real Damage

copart should really wind down, not every1 thinks and lives as meaningless as these, heard nothing but crap about them, but to make matters worse they come to uk buy every1 out and then get rid of all staff and yards just to kill off competition. no regards to anyone with families and mortgages just bye bye. well i just hope that 1 day they get a taste of their own and it will be long overdue!

To say that Copart went to the UK and fired all of the staff is wrong. I work with copart and I was there when we trained in all of the UK employees. Its funny that in one month of blogs there are 10 complaints. In a month, copart sold hundreds of thousands of vehicles. and its the ten complainers that the world see's. The cars that go through copart that are a (shady vehicle) are ussually from a consignment dealer or its a person that pulled one on the ins. company!

CoPart didn't fire all staff, there were plenty of ex-Universal and ex-Century staff who moved themselves on knowing what kind of management was being moved in. I agree that Salvage Auction sites can never disclose the the complete damage on a vehicle with images and description, but if you look at sites like QCSA and their recently acquired company Crashedtoys, they include a professional paragraph of as much as they can fit on the page. This is a company competing in the same market as CoPart and is the only independent to grow in the US. CoPart are not only seen as fraudulant by their customers - selling vehicles with incorrect title is against all trade description laws and the customer should never be forced to pay a resale fee - but they also took advantage of hurricane Katriona salvage selling vehicles that had been fully submerged in contaminated water (junk title) as repairable salvage in Bolivia an Mexico where salvage titles mean little and are near impossible to track back to it's original state. There is NO DOUBT that CoPart carry out decietful tactics in order to maximise their profit to their shareholders and wine and dine Insurance Company executives in Napa Valley to ensure they keep a strong hold on the contracts.
