Loblaw in talks with Atlas Logistics to run Ajax, Ont., distribution centre

(CP) - Loblaw Cos. Ltd. (TSX:L), racked by supply-chain woes, has disclosed it is "at an advanced stage in its discussions" with third-party logistics provider Atlas Logistics Retail Services LLC on operating a big distribution centre in Ajax, east of Toronto.

Loblaw said Monday that Atlas Logistics - a division of the former Atlas Cold Storage, taken over last year by Eimskip Holdings of Iceland - would run the 870,000-square-foot dry and perishable food distribution centre starting next spring. Read more

Doesn't he have one of those utility positions their planning to get rid of? Does that mean he'll have to do some work, or has he fixed that for himself in the contract too!

why dont they just make off system positions non union, that way they will be guaranteed to work instead of hiding in the washroom, lunchroom, union room, under simkins desk, all shift long.

Reps are there to make sure the CBA is applied when required. They are not personal lawyers. They are not there to defend pieces of shit when the company exercises the right to manage and enforce policy. If the CBA is contravened and a Rep does not object, then you can start calling people out.
It's not the 70's and 80's any more.

It's time to get this union and it's chairperson and committee and reps out of LIM! Who is with me? Dis can be dun easily as long as we show solidarity against the union and vote them out at once. I'm gunna lose my position, a position that took me over 4 years to finalle get too. Why did we agree on the last contract? We all getting screwed. It isn't rite. Whoz wiff me??

One of the most precarious situations any nation or segment of its people can find themselves in is to have an elected career politician with an agenda and the ability to make a bad idea sound virtuous by only dealing out certain aspects of their plan while ignoring even the slightest hint of its down side.
The Ontario PCs have such a man at their helm and he wants to be the next premier of this province.
His idea, Union busting! Weakening the hard won gains by which “You” the workers of this province have come to expect as a right of passage in this free society, and he wants to tear them away! Multinational corporations will win,“You” will lose. It took over one hundreds years and many hundreds of lives to see our society flourish into the caring, prosperous and socially protected province we enjoy today, most of which was realized through the insistence and hard work of unionized labour.
When Free Trade was first proposed, it was viewed as a marvel and held out as a model of wealth to the people of Ontario. Many of us jumped on board believing it was the way to go. It certainly sounded like a positive course of action. That was until the unsaid details of the plan began to unfold and the gutting of this provinces manufacturing sector began. At first there were a few layoffs here, a few plant closures there! Sad, but fortunately for most, someone else’s misfortune!
Most Ontarians didn’t see what was on the horizon during those early days.
As corporations began purging jobs from Ontario to other nations with few worker rights and questionable human rights, Ontario’s newly displaced workers soon began to flood an increasingly troubled job market. Never ones to miss an opportunity to turn a profit, business leaders created new jobs out of old jobs that were of a much lower wage and benefit scale. All too soon the other shoe dropped and business leaders began to demand concessions from the workers in order to remain competitive.
Many Ontarians soon found they were forced to spend their savings while they were between jobs and then found that they were unable to recover from that catastrophic financial blow because of the newly lowered wages brought about by the manufacturing sector devastation. Free trade in practice turned out to be much different then what was promised in the first place. As workers raced to the bottom dollar, corporate benefactors were reaping record profits.

Even more distasteful about this course of action is that the policy makers pushing this plan seldom feel a single tinge of the fallout that is unleashed. No, this nightmare plummets onto the shoulders of the multitude of unsuspecting working class citizens like you, the very ones that must watch every penny and still live in the dread of not having enough income to retire at 67 years of age. For the architects of this plan though, it’s “Two terms, Full pension, Zero empathy!”
Nice work if you can find it I must say!
What Tim Hudak and his Ontario PC’s have in store as a potential future for this province could tear the seams out of what remains of our working class rights and weaken the only process that workers have to influence their workplace in a fair manner.
If one looks a little further down the road and history repeats itself as it often has a nasty habit of doing, it may even come to pass that as the citizens of the land wake up and realize their plight, they may also find they have no other options then a return to the violent strike line battles our forefathers had to endure in order to eventually achieve those civil rights that were won from the arrogance and heartlessness of big money. We gained through strong unionism and the men and women who took a stand passed a better society on to their children.
Union bashing is as narrow-minded an exercise as racism or discrimination.
It is usually carried out by individuals that fail to see the damage left in its wake, or worse, see it and don’t care until it touches their lives personally..
