Startup shows off electric car planned for Israel
Israelis got a first demonstration Sunday of the electric car that developers hope will revolutionize transportation in the country and serve as a pilot for the rest of the world.
The silver car doing circles in a Tel Aviv parking lot looked like a regular sedan _ except it had no exhaust pipe and there was an electric socket where the mouth of the gas tank should have been.
The Silicon Valley startup Project Better Place hopes the fully electric prototype will be on Israel's streets in large numbers beginning at the end of 2010. Read more

Bio-fuel? |

Israel understands that buying petrol products supports terrorism. Why send money to people that are trying to kill you?

One more reason for the Arabs to hate Israel, huh?

How is it that the Tesla battery does 250 miles before recharging? Why no onee lse is adopting their batteries?

The electric car "saves energy and reduces pollution." Huh? Where does the electricity come from in the first place? From burning fossil fuels, that's where. All the electric car does is moves the source of pollution and fossil fuel consumption from the road to the power plant. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess...

great idea. Get them all over the middle east. Harder to blow up a car if it doesn't have a tank of gas to ignite.
The mafia will buy these like they're going out of style. |

Not all electricity is generated using fossil fuels. There is nuclear, hydroelectric, solar, etc. As our solar energy collection technology improves, that will become a major source of energy, especially in the desert. Why not include photovoltaic glass and paint in the skin of the car to extend the range of the battery? |

I put on the air conditioner in the summer time and my electric bill goes SKY HIGH. I couldn't imagine how much higher the bill would go if I had to plug in my car too!!!

1 I don't know about the car's battery in Israel, but Tesla has a range of 220 miles on a battery charge of 56 KwH. If you're paying about .15 for a KwH, that's about 8.40 for 200 miles. A car that gets 30 mpg on 3.50 gas would cost 23.33 to go that far, so electric is a better value. Somebody please correct me if my math or technical understanding is incorrect. |
