South Torrance has plenty of `Iron Men'

In the Pioneer League's inaugural football "Iron Man Challenge," it was South Torrance that proved its mettle.

Great job on the coaches in putting together this event. Hopfully this brings more unity to the sport on and off the football fields. Wheather it's football, baseball, soccer, or any other sport, these young athletes compete against each other during the football season and is great compitition out there. Congrats to all the winners in this event, Keep up the hard work and unity.

WHAT? The insignificant pest Tony Stark has amassed an army of Iron Men in the South Bay? DOOM fears no man. I have defeated the so called Fantastic Four & will soon bring these Iron Men to their knees. Beware the power of DOOM!

4.6 in the 40 yd dash. I ran a 4.5 28 years ago and could probably beat these younsters now. I know, this is an old guy trying to re-kindle his youth. Nope, did it all and have no regrets. Just saying, 4.6 and that was the second fastest time of the day. Goes to show you why the South Bay is not a hotbed for recruits. Sure, there are a handful, but nothing like the O.C, the Valley or West on the 101. Oh well, at least they're playing and not being part of the "No show or didn't get invited" Centennial

"Wow" don't get silly and talk non-sense until you know the facts. They ran in deep grass with a head wind I am told. No one times officially on grass. You should know this. Artificial turf or a rubber track is where official times are done now. These players were running in deep, non-mowed/wet grass with a head wind. The 4.6 kid you are referring to runs an official 4.4 on artificial turf with a laser time. He is a 100 meter guy on a good 4 by 1 relay team and he is a highly recruited athlete and he's going to be a junior and the kid "Nick Schotts" who happened to run the fastest time of the day, and who happens to be one of the fastest players in the state of California, his official laser time in the 40 yard dash is 4.37 on artificial turf and is a highly recruited D-1 defensive back prospect who is listed on "scout.com ". Don't forget this is the same league/school (South High School) that three NFL players came from such as...Chauncey Washington (NFL), Chad Morton (NFL) and Johnny Morton (NFL) and many other great D-1 players came out of. So before you spout off negatively about the South Bay, please get your facts straight first. The South bay has always been and will always be one of the main recruiting grounds for the Pac-10, the Mountain West and the WAC conferences and this will never change as some of the very best football players in the country always seem to come from the South bay which is in fact a "hotbed" for football recruiting. Please don't forget that El Camino College is the number one junior college football program in the country almost every year and this is also located in the "South Bay". So get your facts straight "wow".
