I used to sparr with Kevin in Buffano’s Gym. I was only 16 and Kevin almost always left me with two black eyes. My teachers taught I was an abused kid. Kevin was a Prince. He would see me on the streets with my friends and always come over to me and say hi how are you doing Jerry. My friend’s mouths would drop and say you know Kevin Smith. Everyone in Jersey City knew who Kevin was. Kevin stayed with me all of my life. While I was in school pursuing my masters degree and times were hard I could always see Kevin saying “Nobody said it would be easy kid”. Kevin would say to me wait til you fight somebody your age, your gona knock him out. I later won the NJ Golden Gloves, Kevin was already gone but his spirit never left me. I can see him hitting the heavy bag like it was yesterday. God Bless you.

im related to kevin smith's nephew. He was named after his uncle kevin smith. I am a niece to one of Kevin Smith's brothers who is Patrick Smith. There is also another brother James Smith. All of them miss him very much. His death occured when he was playing with a gun at a kitchen table and it shot right at his head. IT WAS AN ACCIDENT not suicide. I never got to meet him because i am just a teenager right now. But he still does mean a lot to me.

Hi Tom Pritchard
I emailed Henry Hanscup and asked him to put Kevin in the NJ Boxing Hall of Fame. He said they would consider it. Let me know if there is anything I could do to help. I wrote a book about Growing up in Jersey City. You might find it interesting. Title is Growing up in a Tough City by Jerry McGrellis. My email is Jerrym57@hotmail.com I would love to help get Kevin in the hall of fame. Take Care Jerry

Did not have the pleasure to know Kevin but sure do know the rest of the family. Big Daddy, Patrick, Brian, Scotty, and of course, Sue. If any of you check this site, just want to say hello. Hey Sue, when did you move to the West?? Got to see Kevin's last fight at Vet's in Bayonne, think against BoB Smith. Kicked his ass. Remember the GRID!!!
