Klitschko Among Greatest Heavyweight Boxers in the Last 20 Years?

Full story: The Big Lead

A couple of readers who follow boxing noted that despite Vitali Klitschko's convincing victory last weekend - he's been the dominant heavyweight since 2003, although he's just 5-0 since the unfortunate loss to Lennox Lewis - he's never going to be considered among the greatest heavyweights in the last 20 years, mostly because he hasn't beaten ...

Are you kidding me. Are you guys who think that on drugs. Him or his brother show nothing as as a good heavyweight. They should not even be in the same class as the likes of Ali, Marciano, and a lot of others. These clowns don't even box, have no foot work and walk like robots. They cut like a peice of paper when hit. Guys like you that write articles like this are the ones that make people not want to watch the sport.

I agree 101%- I see the Brothers as very appropriate "role models" for Children which is weighted in my mind as equal to the pure atheletic abilities of any sports figure [particularly now].

The Klitchko's deserve to be "CROWNED" as two of the GREATEST HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONS in recent history. This is just My Humble Opinion - having boxed Golden Gloves and Amature - following professional level boxing since the true "Glory Days" {Before Don King}

I think either Klitschko could mop up any boxer of the past, as most HWs could. I watched Holyfield,Tyson,Ali reruns on espn. The I saw Klitschko in front of 61,000. He is huge, strong, fast, and hits very hard at 6 ft 6 & 250, solid.

The reruns of 220 Ali, 208 Frazier, Spinks 190, Holyfield bald and 225,Tyson 5ft 10...these are all midgets.

The real issue here is race. All the HWs are white and KO blacks on a monthly basis. Issue#2-they HWs are non-American and have a World wide following, not just some ghetto gym on a dead end street in Brooklyn. Even past USA HWs could not fill up a 12k arena. Look at Larry Flab Holmes. He once had 1200 in attendance at the Astro Dome. Ali who lost 10 fights could not draw a crowd like 61,000...Tyson and others had difficulty selling out MGM.
Face it boxing fans, Klitschko is a bad bad man.

Strange name calling and metaphors by someone who apparently hasn't been watching any boxing himself. They've put everybody in there and will continue to do so. Anyone willing with a good record or a mouth big enough to talk trash will be given a chance to get embarrassed and made to look like amatear boxers in there. There's no living heavyweight currently that will do well against these guys. And doubt that any of the previous greats that fought at a time when Russians weren't permitted to fight in the professional ranks could compete with these guys. The world is bigger now in the boxing world. Roy Jones is awesome, but when we allowed J. Calzaghe to come test him, he embarrassed us. It was a total mismatch I'm ashamed to say. Maybe we have an American champ out there waiting to get in there, but if that were true. What's he waiting for. What? He doesn't need the money?

I like David Tua. He has amazing power. I just like the guy and how he fights. But I don't think he'll succeed against either Klitscko. He has the same problem that Tyson had. Awesome fighters who can't fight world level outside fighters like Holyfield, Douglas, Lewis and both Klitschkos. Tua was made to look like an ameature against Lennox. I was so dissappointed and bored that it was a mismatch. Which is why some people get bored with the Klitschko fights. They're so much better than every body else that the lack of competitiveness is boring. Who wants to watch a professional basketball team play against a group of ameature dads. It'gets rediculous and it gets boring.

Mstutt, everything you said is so wrong it makes me wanna puke. to start off ali didn't lose 10 fights, he lost 5 out of 61, your off a good 50% there buddy lol. second, tyson's aggressive style and knockout power made him one of the most exciting fighters to watch. he sold out fights when he was 19 years old, the same could be said about holyfield. they were both exciting fighters. third, the only person thats making it a race issue is you. unless we were living in the 1800's when jack johnson was destroying every boxer that faced him, then people would be talking about race. but this is 2009, nobody cares about race anymore. this is an issue that neo-nazi's and the KKK are only concerned about, not the average american citizen. people could careless about the race of the champ, if your an exciting fighter that beats top competiton, then he'll have a bigger fanbase.

but the kiltschkos aren't any of those things. while im not gonna deny they are the best HW's by todays standards and have great skill and power, they're very boring to watch and haven't beaten anybody to put them on the GOAT list. vlad lost against corrie sanders along with other fighters that are mediocre. vitali quit against chris byrd and lost against a way past his prime lennox lewis. these losses for both fighters puts a HUGE stain on their resume, therefore preventing them from being considered one of the greatest of all time.

lennox lewis thinks he himself is all about greatness and continually talks about his legacy.
How does a man praise himself so much?

He also slags off Vitali & Wlad, asking who they beat. But he himself beat fighters who were in decline...as every fighter does.

lennox is a tall guy & was punching down to almost all his opponents & struggled when he faced Vitali.A cut(lucky or not)gave him victory.

Vitali is also tall and because fighters find it hard to get to such a tall man, they struggle to beat them.

If Lennox Lewis kept his word & gave vitali a rematch and won,he would get a lot more respect from the boxing world. But he must have thought what the odds were of getting such a vital cut again, because Vitali has never been knocked down..or OUT..and that includes his 100plus fights as a kickboxer.

but Lennow realized that he had no mug n his hands and always laughed it off.but if fighters slag off opponents who they built their ´`legacy``
on,if they say they are no good, then their lagacy means nothing.

Everytime the Klitscho``s step into the ring, all the critics cant wait for them to fall, and if they win, they are like,oh well, the opponent was terrible anyway.

its not about race you say ??
Really?
Everytime some black man achieves, its like...wow,he is the first black man to do this or that.

We have white european men who are running the heavyweight devision now...for years we had to sit and listen to how great blacks are on the sportsarena. So we will enjoy our time in the sun

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Sagittarius

You'll feel friendly with everyone you meet today, and you might even be lucky financially. Money should be coming in, but going out rather fast as well... Astral influences will keep you on your toes, and will probably make you flirtatious, but they could also make you moody. This makes it tricky for close relationships to run on an even keel. The truth is, perhaps you don't want too much closeness at the moment. Your partner probably knows that you're often like this, by now, anyway.
