Not sure Viloria said:'...mixed martial arts filled the void for a little bit...'

At the time of Viloria's last boxing contest in Hawaii, both local mixed martial arts promotions 'Rumble on the Rock' and 'Icon Sport' were putting 5000-6000 fans in the Blaisdell with each event. These shows were doing better than quarter-million dollar gates. And Viloria's little show at the Sheraton during this time had less than 1000 fans, and this was on the heels of his Olympic fame. Mixed martial arts wasn't just filling a void, it was stomping on boxing's throat.

I'm a former boxer and I love boxing. But its foolish to say that mixed martial arts was just filling a void while he competed outside Hawaii. Boxing - both in Hawaii and abroad - has already lost most of its market share to its combat competitor. The boxing world needs to get off its high-horse and realize that it is no longer the principal combat sport. Mixed martial arts HAS taken over. And its growing like wildfire in Western Europe, Asia, South America, and especially the former Soviet Union.

Good luck in your bout Brian. I will be there to support.

I am happy for Brian, and I am glad he is able to defend his title in front of hometown fans. I really love the sport of boxing; however, from a fan's perspective, I have a real hard time getting excited about watching a fight between two guys who barely weigh 100-lbs. My 7th-grade niece is bigger than Viloria. I've seen Brian in person, and he is so tiny. He wasn't even at fight weight, yet he is so small in both stature and body size - the size of a 6th grader. Personally, I don't like watching fights between guys below the super bantam weight level (122-lbs). Nevertheless, I wish Brian well in his defense.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Scorpio

If you haven't seen certain people during the past few days, how about inviting them over for a drink or a meal? You're feeling sociable and will enjoy doing some light entertaining although you'll draw the line at anything too strenuous. It's a lovely day for being in familiar surroundings with some familiar faces, even if all you do is flop on the sofa.
