AMATEUR BOXING in BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA

The era of amateur boxing in British Columbia can best be divided into three time periods.
1.Pre-1939
2. 1939 to 1968
3. Post 1968

At the present time, it is sanctioned by BOXING BC, a provincial body of BOXING CANADA.

The era between 1939 to 1968 could best be described as the Golden Age of boxing.

FLASHBACK 1946 "Vancouver Sun" sponored Golden Gloves

It was post WWII, so the 1946 tournament was expected to have some
returning veterans to the ring wars of amateur boxing.

In 1946, the "Vancouver Active Club: would be part of the tournament.
Some key folks of the club at that time were:
CECE SAWYER, DON HARPER, and CECE GOODRICH.
one of the benefits was some of the procees of the Goden Gloves
was to assist in funding for the Crippled Children' Hospital.

Community support was also important in those days, and from the Golden Glove program of 1946 some important support was provided by a variety of
business organizations of Greater Vancouver, Some of those include:
*the Royal Blue Taxi Co.
*Garvin Ice & Fuel Co.
*Invermay Hotel, Ambassador Hotel, Milton's "Empire Cafe"
and Sid Beech and his "Vancouver Tamale Parlor"/

*Tip Tp[ Tai;prs and the Western Sports Centre and others.
