Tyson inspired me as a small man to believe in myself when no one else would. I then became an All-Amercian in football. For that inspiration I still train hard as hell today. He deserves his place in history in the IBHOF. Thanks Mike and good luck!

He has had his share of shortcomings just like every boxer had. And he sure is not even on the top 10 of the greatest heavyweights.
But these are his contributions and his uniqueness to boxing:
-created excitement in the heavyweight division from the mid 80s up to his downfall in the Douglas fight, also cleaned out and terrorized the division
-youngest heavyweight boxing champion along with Floyd Patterson
-also perfected the peek-a-boo stance than any D'Amato trained boxer
-over 20 first round KOs in his boxing career
-for a heavyweight, moved like a middleweight and could maim you with either hand
-has power and speed without sacrificing either one
-naturally built and never needed any steroids or performance enhancing drugs

The problem with Tyson is that to be considered a great heavyweight, one must have wins over other great heavyweights. Unfortunately for Tyson, he doesn't.

Wins over the likes of James "The Boneclutcher" Smith, and Frank "Tap me on the chin and I'll take a nap" Bruno do nothing to bolster Tyson's reputation.

His knockout of Larry Holmes came when Holmes, at 39, was well past his prime. Michael Spinks was a great light heavyweight, but at best an above average heavyweight.

Finally, while Tyson has no wins over a great heavyweight, he has no losses to one either. Losses to Buster Douglas,(a decent Journeyman) Evander Holyfield,(a great light heavy, and a very good heavyweight who was 35 and 36 yrs. old when he fought Tyson) and Lennox Lewis (good, but not great)diminish Tyson"s legacy more than any of his personal or legal problems.

Those would definitely be the reasons that would prevent him from being a great heavyweight. Who knows how he would have fared against tough opponents had he maintained or enhanced his skills. After the Douglas fight, he was never the same anymore. Gone are the peek-a-boo defense and combinations although he still had power in both hands. He had a good chin but not enough to take punishment for long periods.

He's a freaking clubber with no talent. He hit hard. Big deal. When everyone figured him out, he couldn't stand up to a damn scarecrow. So, he decided to him women instead, and ended in jail for RAPE.

Yeah, great fighter, great person, great IDIOT.
