I would recommend a bouncer during the week as well, or an earlier closing time. It has been my experience as a bartender at another similar establishment that many fights happen during the week as well when the bartender is alone. It's a very scary experience, especially when you find out later that the fight was gang-related.

Try having trophies thrown at you, all the tables flipped over and broken....on a Monday night when you are tending the bar alone with a total of seven customers, four of which are fighting with each other. You try to call the cops only to find that the line is busy. Meanwhile, your husband is trying to break up the fight alone so that you don't get hurt and you are trying to get his dumb a-s-s out of the middle of this fight that you know will probably result in his stabbing death over this grubby bar. So you push the secret little button under the bar which is supposed to signal the alarm company to call the police. You try the cops again and get them next time but by the time they get there, the perps are gone. You find one of their IDs on the floor along with a Mass Health card (yes, apparently if you are a piece of crap gang member/ drug dealer, you get Mass Health). After the cops have left, the alarm company calls you (about 30 minutes later) and asks if everything is all right. You tell the boss and he laughs and says, "Good, that button works." Thank god I got out of bartending! Oh yeah, a few weeks later, the dirtbags whose ID you find is in the paper for violating probation. He was arrested previously for attempted murder!!!!

Please, please, please have some sort of system for protecting your patrons during the week as well, because as you can see from the above story, you can't rely on the cops!

One slimy dirtbag establishment moving into the site of another former slimy dirtbag establishment. If the city was smart, they would have never given them a liquor license and that would solve all of these problems. These places don't draw anything but the scum of the earth and should be done away with.

Gee. 40 years in business, then:

He said the move was precipitated by an eviction notice from Scarafoni Associates, which he attributes to complaints about customers smoking outside.

Seems to me scarphony has no need to rent ground floors out to business --- the upstair apartments cover expenses and make a tidy profit.

And people wonder why nobnody wants to open a business on Main St. Seems something screwy is going on here. Artery got evicted because of smokers outside? A 40 year tenent gets kicked out because of that??

Something really stinks in North Adams.

Well knowing the Artery Lounge and going there ONCE IN AWHILE- I have seen what danny has done to clean up the place--yes clean up the place. He has what I (as a bartender) would consider a pretty good crowd and does his best to control the crowd and atmospere. And scarface scarfoni did indeed request that the patrons not be allowed to smoke outside his building- had to walk across the street to smoke a legal -heavily taxed product--does he own the sidewalk? I say good job danny and keep on being a buisiness owner who TRIES to do the right thing for the city and his customers, and good luck at the new location. And LADY--you obviously were not cut out to be a bartender, maybe you should take up day care--both quite the same except the clientel is a few years younger.

I don't know why you feel the need to attack me anyway. I loved the Artery when I used to go out in my twenties. The bar that I worked at insisted on closing at 2am every night and we would get the garbage leftover from the other bars that kicked their patrons out at an earlier hour and that usually spelled trouble for our bar. I'm just saying that you shouldn't ignore safety during the week. By the way, I think it's funny that you need to capitalize "once in awhile" to make yourself look like you aren't a barfly.

The Artery is actually a pretty decent place. Its the only place where you can go have some drinks and go show off some moves. Stop cutting up one of the better bars in town. They took over a dive spot cleaned it up and now their doing well with it. I hope all goes well for Dan and Logan goodluck guys
