The above is a VERY stupid comment (particularly after almost 8 years of right-wing facism).

Children should NOT be exposed to things that will potentially damage them for the rest of their lives. Haven't you observed the continually excalating violence occurring in the U.S.?

Havn't you observed that popular entertainment outlets revolve around a culture of violence, sadism, perversion. etc., etc.? Don't you think there's a link between the two?????

You're TOO OLD TO BE PLAYING GAMES, you losers. What possible benefit can a person in their 30s and 40s get by playing childrens' games? Oh that's right, "voyeurism". Wow, what a great quality we all should experience. Heck, you haven't lived unless you've hid in the closet and secretly watched a pimp beat the crap out of a hooker.
Oh and let's not forget about "escapism", because like a good belt of alcohol abuse, there's nothing like escaping from your job, your family, your responsibilities, because you need to "escape" from it all.
Sure, we Americans who have more personal wealth and comfort than any other society in the history of the written word, need to relax from the harsh realities of Starbucks, waiting for our tax rebates, or using our welfare check to buy the latest video aberration. It sure is tough being an American isn't it? There's just so much we need to escape from.
What a load of crap. The adult American historically concentrated on improving the lives of their family, the quality of their neighborhoods, and improving the society around them. The modern American "adult" is more concerned with spending his money on audio/visual equipment to improve the quality of his "gaming".
Maybe if some of you could put down the controller for a minute and focus on the world around you, we could do something constructive instead of killing a hooker for her money. Oh, I'm sorry I forgot.
You're too busy being a voyeur... Do me a favor, and don't forget to shut the lights off when you're done playing; for goodness sake, it's already 4am, and aren't you supposed to be at work in a few hours?
You're calling in sick today? Again? Isn't this like the 4th time in as many weeks you called in sick to work? It's only a game, shouldn't you be worried that you might lose your job?
Oh I'm sorry I made you pause the game. Sorry, go ahead, I'll go feed the baby for you...she's been crying for hours in case you haven't heard her. Oh, you couldn't hear her because your headset was turned up too loud huh?
Luckily gaming is ALL he's doing. He could be visiting the girl-animal sex sites!

it's just a game. i'm 16 and love GTA. that doesn't mean i'm going to go out into the streets and beat up random people. if you think today's youth is so weak-minded that as teens they will emulate violent behaviour like that, then there's something seriously wrong here. if parents buy the game, they aren't bad parents, they just know that their child(ren) know the difference between fantasy and reality. i enjoy GTA, but i also enjoy other games like Sonic and Tales of Symphonia. just because i play a violent game doesn't make me a violent person. it's a game and all of this "negative" feedback from people is just going to boost sales. anyone remember "hot coffee"?
sorry kid. teens today are just dumb.

Violence is dangerous. Thus all societies have rules and mores to regulate the extent to which members of the society can engage in violence. While serious social debate surrounds the development of those rules, we only hear facile cliches to justify GTA's level of fantasizing about violence; people need to 'blow off steam' they want 'entertainment.' What do these things really mean? There is no rationale for indulging in fantasies about selfish violence that will stand up to even the most mundane, common sense rules of decent social conduct that all of us learn from our parents as children; whether we are WASP suburbanites or Achakzai tribesmen

Instead of worrying about violence in a video game we should think about people without jobs making ten babbies! If you dont like video games like that dont play it! I bet the good mayor daley will pass a LAW banning that game from the city of chicago and crook county just like his gun ban!

Have you heard that is the parents responsablity to teacher their kids about fanisty and realilty?

Have you heard that it the parents responsablity to check out before hand what rating videogames, movies etc? It not hard at all.

Game that is clearly for older teens and adults is not sutible for 5 yr olds. If you fail to teach them the diffents between fanisty and reality and/or check out BEFORE HAND of what you give your kids it your fault not others if your kid reenacts what they see.

Yeah, because before video games, there was NO CRIME! Wake up, you stupid monkey. Just another bitter and clueless idiot, who, with any amount of good luck is soon to die. Good riddance.

Games are just another form of escapism, just like watching films, reading a book or magazine. Violence is everywhere, we simply need to watched the news and get involved with politics to see that. So why do people care so much about games. If you don't like it, don't play it. Parents should also be wise enough to know whether it's applicable for children. People have a right to play games if they choose. I play games, but don't smoke or drink. So does somebody who goes to a bar every night but doesn't play Grand Theft any better than me? Seriously people, lets focus on the real problems of today...poverty, famine, war etc etc etc.

Well I care my father who has alzheimer's disease, work full time, study at college in the evening, socialise with friends and family and care for my mother. I don't drink, go clubbing, smoke, I go the gym and run regularly, I raise money for charities and have applied for the London marathon. If I wanna play games I will and I really don't care what other people do with their lives.

First of all "...72 percent of parents don't understand game ratings." If you are a parent and you do not understand these game ratings maybe you shouldn't be a parent at all. I will take a look at my GTA IV case to further your understanding of these ratings that may confuse some of you parents who did not graduate high school.

Rated M for MATURE. 17+, right there on the front of the case.

On the back,
Blood, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs and Alcohol.

If someone cannot understand those ratings then you need some serious help.
