My father was on the Santee. He died in 1981 of lung cancer. My mom and I are trying to find anyone who remembers him. His name was Tom Luckado. I'll check on the dates he served. I know he fixed radios. I have some pictures with signatures of other sailors but some are just first names.
please

My father, Robert L. Elliott{Bob), served on the Uss Santee from 1942-1945 also. He was in the Visual communications Dept., according to him. My mother always said he was a radio/gunner. He doesn't talk much about what he did but I asked him if he remembered any of the names posted here and he said that he'd need to see pictures of them. Here is my email address if any of you would like to contact me maybe we could work something out; sae12462@yahoo.com. The last reunion he went to was the one in Colorado - I believe it was 4-6 years ago.

I am looking for the names of the crew flying Avenger VC29, who sank U 509 with an aerial Fido torpedo on July 15, 1943 in the Atlantic NW of Madeira Portugal. Position 34.02N 26.01W

My reason for asking is that this is the U boat that torpedoed MV Stentor on OCT 27 1942, killing my grandfather, Captain William Williams.

I would very much like to know who this American were and if any survive, thank them for what they did.

My father was on the Santee from 1942-1946. Richard (Dick) Siegfried. When he left the ship he was a firt class fire control. He passed Dec. 2002. I was able to go to a reunion with him once. It was a great honor to meet his shipmates and a great memory for me. I have his navy blue uniform and metals. I would love to find out how to arrange them on his blouse. My e-mail is dtsiegfried@sbcglobal.net

Thanks. I have Googled and this is as far as it goes. The specific Avenger and crew names are probably only available though a Santee deck log which I cannot find.

If your grandad can help I would be very grateful.

Allan, are you referring to the Santee or the Stentor?
