OK, here's my take - Why do some people start forums like "Why whites hate blacks" and "Why blacks hate whites?" Can't we see that the only way to bury racism is to start looking within and try to determine what the fear is that kindles racism. We are all of the same mold to a degree. We all bleed the same. Can't we get away from segregation amoungst ourselves? Here's my idea, if you were born in America, then you are American. Let's get rid of the hyphenated names such as Asian American, African American, Mexican American and so on. If you weren't born here but migrated, then fine but if you were born in the U.S - YOU ARE AN AMERICAN! By continuing to differentiate, it only exacerbates the problem.
Further, if you've never been a slave, then let's try to get beyond hanging on to the anger. Personally, No one in my lifetime or my parent's lifetime has ever owned a slave. It's not fair to hold an entire generation accountable for something that happened before we were born. We can't go back and undo what our ignorant ancestors did in the past. I can understand residual anger but actively keeping it alive is not going to do anyone any good.
Now I must admit, I have fallen prey to commenting on the boards I just mentioned but in the bigger picture, we all need to get along. Can't we at least try? I would hope that anyone posting a response to this will stay on track and we can have a decent legitimate discussion and not start calling names. If we all just try, we can accomplish it I'm sure.
