<quoted text>@Siddharth: Go for it. You remember the good time you had when you had short hair. now you have kept joora for 8 years. As you grow up you have to interact more with your extended family. I am sure that your mother will understand. She had taken you for haircuts when you were small. Ask your cousins to take you to the barber and enjoy the feel of scissors in the hair. Have fun and do not think much. Get over the emotional part and love the change. Go ahead and let us know.
I got it. The haircut is on. Today i went with ashish to a nearby saloon. There the barber saw me and said " joora katwana hai kya" and then started smiling. I smiled back and sat on the chair. He opened my patka and then my joora. Then he took a rubber band and tied a tight pony. The he cut the hair off using a scissors. The chrip sound was ultimate and the feel of cut hair on the neck was awesome. The he used a water spray, comb and scissors to trim the hair, sideburns and nape. Meanwhile his attendent cut off my beard with a scissor. Then the barber applied gillette foam on my face and shaved it off. It was a refresing feeling. I think awesome now with short hair and cleanshaven look. Now my face has a definite shape and my hair are hygenic and clean. Now i dont hear sounds like gianni bodha joora. And i feel happy when i move my hand in my hair.

CongratsSiddarth. I told you that u will enjoy.'Achhe din aa gaye'. The barber was very thoughtful and knew why you came to his shop. Did you recall the older days when you used to come for haircut with your mom. And very rightly said that the shave is a refreshing experience. Did you celebrate with your cousins? You should bcos they heloed in your freedom. And your mother - did she appreciate it and run her hands in your hair?
So much changes with a little effort. So good to share your experience. Now for Second hair cut and then it is all fun! Congrats!

I am a 25 years old sikh boy and work in delhi. Almost all my friends have short hair or are cut surds since birth. My friends rohit and gaurav although are sikh but are cut surds since they were 8 and 10 as their dad took the family for a change. We share a bond since all of us stay together. They respect my being a sikh but sometimes suggest me for a haircut. Last week all of us decided to go for a head massage at a nearby saloon and they will also get a haircut. We reached the saloon. The barber as usual opened my joora and started oiling it and massaging it. Then he shampooed and washed it. Just as a concern he told me to make my hair a bit shorter in order to treat split ends and make a nice pony. I was reluctant but gaurav and rohit made me agree. I also agreed and the barber made me sit on the chair and combed my hair backwards. Then he took the scissors and cut my hair just lower to my neck. My head felt light. Then he straightned my hair, menwhile i had decide to get the jhon abraham long haircut. The barber gave it as i instructed. He then shaved my trimmed beard and shapened my sideburns. I was looking young and handsome. Now i feel a bit comfortable with rohit and gaurav as i am like them. They als appreciate my looks and decision.

I am proud to be a sikh and i hate even a moment in my life without being a sikh. Sikhism is a open school which is ready to embrace anyone and everyone built with foundation of compassion and power. I am 27 and am a gursikh with gurus blessings. I dont feel myself odd, on the contrary i feel that people love my looks. Turban beard and hair are never a hindrance for me rather its the inner thought of ours which stop us. My god almighty pity on hour actions. Read gurbani and be a gursikh

My dad got his haircut when he was 17 but he wanted me and my elder brother Om to be a sardaar. Dad got a haircut as he worked as a chef in a hotel in dubai so due to his job he had to get a haircut. I also wanted to have a haircut, but could not get enough confidence to do it. I had told my family that i want a haircut but they were very sad listening to it. I was in a fix, but then my neighbour saurabh came to my rescue. He pumped confidence in me and took me along to a saloon for a haircut. That was the push i needed. The barber did is kob amazingly accompanied by the snipping scissors, falling hair, cropped look, shaving razor, dhaving foam, hair gel and look more. There i stood a changed personality with a short crop, cleanshaven face and trimmed sideburns.

Mom was not angry as she knew its gonna happen one day or the other and moroover she had seen me in haircuts before. Although she said i look handsome with short hair. Today was the day for second cut. I went to the saloon and unlike the first time i had a hairstyle in mind, i wanted the hair like the one which my cousin shiv had, thats long hair in front and temples and gradual crop at back and a clean nape and hairline. The barber made me sit, sprayed water on my freed hair which were not in a joora any more. Even thinking of keeping a joora makes me feel bizarre and unhygenic. The cut was smooth and the shave was awesome. I hv a sardar friend sahil sandhu who also wants to get his joora cut, and he appreciated my looks and decision. His father is very strict and will kill him if he even trimed his beard. But last week i also pumped a lot of confidence in him. His sister and mother alreaddy cut their hair and i yold him to give the same plea. I made him understand that hair are nothing but a dead cells and you do not become more pure by not cutting them. But then i said that he should first cut his hair and seek support from mum and sister. Bus that was it he agreed, but it was 12 pm and he could not wait till mrng. So i opened his joora tied a pony and took a scissor and sliced his joora. It hardly took me 10 secs to cut his joora and make his feel the freedom and air in his hair. Then i took a shaving razor and shaved his beard. In the mrng we went to the saloon at 7 am and got his hair styled and cut. Now sahil looks as if he is a 14 years old boy earlier ge used to look as if he was 35. Thd difference was there, the clean shaven look, side partition in hair, nicely shaped nape, closely croppped hair at back, smooth sidebrns, hair moving with air, his hand setting his hair again and forth, no more face covered in turban. Life took a turn after haircut as instead of combing, hairwash, turban, fixo, thati giani bodha now it was full of caps hats goggles hairstyles gels after shaves razors styles swimming etc.

i wanted to cut my hair since i was in 6th and even went for it when i was in seventh. I just wnt in to a barber shop and got my joora cut and got a cool haircut just like my other friends. but when i went home i was beaten blue and black and was threatened. but i disobeyed and started to maintain the short hair and managed the same for a year. but under parental pressures i had to again keep the hair. now it has been 9 years since i keep my hair. i am working now and hv a gf, she is a non sikh, she is a jain 'anjali shah'. her parents also want me to get a hair cut before marriage. her younger brother is ashish shah and he always makes fun of my joora and wants that i cut it. but she doesnt mind my joora and is fine with it. her parents are quite conservative jains and want me to get a haircut, be vegetarian, be a non drinker and overall try and practise Janism. I in nidhi's love sacrificed non veg and alcohol. now what was left was haircut and janism. so i went with ashish last week to a saloon for a haircut. ashish choose a hairstyle for me. the barber removed the turban opened the joora combed the hair backwards and made sectionwise ponytails. ashish was recording it in his iphone. then the barber took a scissor and cut off all the ponies. now what was left was neck lenght hair, then he sprayed some water on my hair combed them again and started using the comb and scissors. after 30 mins the haircut was over. the cut chosen by ashish was a center partition haircut with long hair in front and short at back, the hair in front were partitioned from center and went till my eyebrows. the sideburns were short. the ashish told him to shave my facial hair. the barber told me to keep a stubble, but ashish said that his family hates stubble and a cleanshaven look is better, after 15 mins i got a shave. then i went with ashish to a shewatember jain temple ad there i got blessings from the priest who explained jainism to me and took the 5 vows and declared me a jain. then i straight away went with ashish to his house where everyone was happy to see my haircut and accepted me as their to be son in law. ashish told them about me being a jain and my new name Ashish Jain. anjali praised my hairstyle and looks.

@Siddarth: Congrats for enjoying the new life style. You would love experimenting and the refreshing feel after a new haircut and a shve is only to be experienced. Good that you got a positive sign from your mother. Yes, she woul be rememebring the days when you had haircuts and she then would also be comparing how she took care of you long hair. But is is a very confident step that you took and now best of 'new' life!
