Im 25 and went to salon for a haircut. I couldnt get the haircut as they did not have the pictures for hairstyles.
It was very difficult to enter the salon for the first time but i gatjered guts and went. But unfortunately couldnt get the haircut as i dont knoe the hairstyles and they did not have pics.
Even i was very nervous to get the haircut. My family do not know this that i want a haircut and i have never dicussed with them. Just want a haircut and a clean shaven look. I dont know how will they react. Left home in turban and took it off in the car and made a pony.
Since i did not get the haircut, so i had to tie turban again and then come home. Such a waste of time.
But once i entered the salon, it was a nice feeling. The lady at the counter treated me very well. But there were onle male hairstylists. I want to get the haircut from a girl.
Lets see when i get it done
Stressed: Do not worry it happens every time we go to the barber shop fo the first time. It is because, Getting a haircut is an emotional decision after we have been fed on stories of keeping long hair. Do not loose heart you will get your way. Even if they do not have any pictures, go to the internet and print out the style you like. But for the first hair cut go in for a style they suggest. After a few days, again get a shorter cut and bone month go for a buzzed head. Then your hair will grow back in a natural style and by then you would have loved getting a hair cut and your friends would help you too. Take courage and go ahead on the beginning of a weekend so that you enjoy by your own the 'free' weekend and Monday would be a surprise .for others! Best Wishes and looking forward for your experience

Im really nervous as to how will i look after the haircut and the reactions of the family members. No one in the family has a haircut.
Moreover i have fully grown beard. What should i do? Get it trimmed or clean shave? And any suggestions for the hairstyle for the first time..
Also ive heard that female hairstylists are better than male ones.. Is it true?

Its really a nice feeling and the short hair made me a handsome guy. I went to ashish's house and there everyone appreciated my looks. Today i did my first shave myself with ashish's help.the feeling was nice and smooth. Ashish is a true saviour
Today i went in for my secondhaircut. My first haircut was around 15 days back. My frontal hair became wavvy and unkempt and the sideburns were a but shabby and the hair on neck came up and ruined the shape of my hair. I went with ashish to the saloon , i was a bit nervous so told ashish to be with me. The barber wetted my hair andcombed it mudways and using a scissor started to trim my hair. Then he used a razor to shapen up my nape and side burns. After this ashish got his haircut. Later on he took me to purchase me a electric shaver and hair gel. Today i fell the freedom all thanks to ashish.

I would be happy to share my experience, on that day my husband plans for shopping and both of us went to the market while we did half shopping suddenly he parked our car in front of unisex saloon, i thought that he might be going for some beard trim etc. When he told me to come down i replied that i will wait here you may go and come soon. Then he told me that it will take some time better to wait inside the saloon. So i enter inside and sit at reception area, my husband was discussing something with barber in service area and i started reading magazines over there. Suddenly a lady comes to me and instructed me to come with her. i thought that my husband may be calling so i followed her and she told me to sit on a chair in front of large mirror. I suddenly surprised and started looking for my husband, he comes and told me to get relax and not to worry much. As soon as i sit on chair, that lady caped me and around neck. Till now i got the idea that some thing is going to happen with me, most probably with my hairs. I again asked my husband that what is going on but he simply told me do not worry just keep silent. Mean while a hairdresser (that barber with whom my husband was discussing initially) comes and pumped the chair upto certain height till now i was started getting nervous then i asked barber " bhaiya kya karne ja rahe ho?" (what you are going to do?) he holds my head in his hands then smiled and simply replied madam "khoobsoorat lagoge ghabrao maat shaant baitho"(you will look beautiful do not panic, just stay calm ). By now i have prepared my self just to watch and let it be happen all that is going on.
Then barber holds my heavy bun in his hands, pulls out joora pin & opens the joora (bun).
after that he evenly spreads all my hairs on my back and on the sides and on the shoulder and some in the front.
This was actually first time for me, i was looking my self helplessly in the mirror. this situation for me was mix of thrill, nervousness, excitement, shyness and fear.
my heartbeat goes faster and body and legs starts shivering little sweetening on face.
Barber observed these things and started doing his work fast.
he combs my hair then sprayed and did sectioning and picks up the scissors and put it into my hairs just below my right shoulder blade i was watching desperately in the mirror meanwhile he started cutting and first chunk of hairs fall on the floor. after that his scissors runs continuously in my hairs on the back, on the sides, top of the head, in the front of face etc. it was all hairs all around me, on the floor, on the laps, on the feet, around the chair all over. it takes hardly 20 minutes approximately, he turned my hip length long hairs to short in deep U shape short upto shoulders from sides and upto the centre of shoulder blades in midback, with layers in sides and back and bangs and flicks on front.
after that he took brush and started blow drying and then again picks up scissors did some finishing and uncaped me.
i was standing in front of me looking at new me totally changed not recognizable. felling totally light. lot of bulk was removed.
my husband was also surprised and then we left the saloon after paying.

@Jasleen: It was really interesting to read your experience and the feelings are just as you described them. First it is a lot of emotional upheaval and we feel strange getting our hair cut. But after the haircut just as you feel it is a lot of volume and bulk off and lightness with a new look is loved by all. It seems as if we were going around with all this weight earlier. It is really true that the barber had to tell you to sit quiet and just allow him to do the needful. And now that you are a first in the family, maybe there would be other members who might like to follow you. I must congratulate you in the confidence that you had in your husband and his insight that you will look beautiful after the haircut.I think it is a great feeling to have when both of you will go to the same saloon for hair cuts. You will now get interested in new styles and soon get more friends while at the parlour. May be your husband would like a shorter style and you will do it right away. You might miss your bun for a few days but the lightness and the less work and time will make you love your short style and I am sure you will never go back to the bun. Do let us know the reaction and response of your family. CONGRATS!

@Karan Singh Kaura: Congrats for the haircut. And you were due for a second haircut soon. It is natural for the hair to grow back and you would feel so odd with the growth all over. In 15 days did you not shave. or did you have your beard trimmed. It would be real refreshing to shave. use a Mach 3 Gillette which gives closer and smooth shaves. it is as if there is no hair in the cheeks. Do go and get regular trims so that your hair keeps shape and the shaved and clean nape is the hall mark of a good haircut. Select the barber who gave you the first haircut and be the best of friends to Ashish who helped you with the hair cut. In summer days now, you may go for a buzz cut so that the hair grows back in its own style and also you are cool in summer. Thank Ashish's mother who sided with you and would have really talked with your mother for accepting this change. Keep posting such 'success' stories.

Keeping long hair is relly a hassle. I had a joora since last 19 years and now the beard was also a problem. I had joined in a hostel in DU and shared my room with sahil and akash. Sahil belonged to a sikh family but had been cutting his hair since he was 11, all thanks to his father who agreed for his haircut. Akash was a hindu but his mother was a sikh and she wanted akash to keep a joora due to which he was raised a a sikh. But akash's father got his hair cut when he was 6. Sahil and akash keep on pursuing me to cut my hair. I also wanted to do the same and be like them. Today i has washed my hair and was drying them when sahil and akash came to me and coerced me to cut my hair. Sahil caught my hair and compared them with his hair meanwhile akash came with a scissors. I agreed for the cut. Sahil made a pony and akash cut it off with the scissors. Then sahil took his electric shaver and shaved off my beard. Then we went to the nearby saloon. The barber did his job, the snipping sound was awesome. After the cut the feel was amazing as the head felt light. The short cropped and gelled look was what i dreamt.

Today i went to the salon. Did not get the haircut but got my hair trimmed. It was wonderful experience to feel the scissors in hair. The hairdresser said that i would look good with spikes and clean shave look. But due to family issues i could not get the haircut.
Now only some length is chopped. Feeling of barber chair and hair chunks falling when cut is really awesome!

Congrats Abhay. And great of your friends to have helped you in 'liberation'. They have seen both sides and have more experience, so they helped you in your dream. It is nice that their fathers were so cooperating and they got their sons to have short hair after the initial joora stage. How easy it would have been for their mothers who would be free from the tedious job of helping out with the long hair. I am glad that you will now have a life long friendship and this will gel with time. Now for the second hair cut at the barbers when you will love to go shorter and enjoy new styles. And shaving is such a refreshing experience.Welcome to the family of short haired surds - may our tribe increase! Congrats once again and do shre you further experience..

The hair growth was quite fast so i had to get the haircut. I trimmed my beard for 15 days as i was not used to the shave. But since the day of my second hair cut i shave twice a day and that too with a gillette mach 3. It really gives a good shave.now i plan to grow out my hair and keep them straight till my neck just like john abraham long haircut. But for that i will have to wait for 3 months but i have to visit the saloon for a trim and straightening of my hair every 10 days. I am really excited, will post after my third haircut. I am loving it.

@Siddharth: Go for it. You remember the good time you had when you had short hair. now you have kept joora for 8 years. As you grow up you have to interact more with your extended family. I am sure that your mother will understand. She had taken you for haircuts when you were small. Ask your cousins to take you to the barber and enjoy the feel of scissors in the hair. Have fun and do not think much. Get over the emotional part and love the change. Go ahead and let us know.
