I belong to a conservative sikh family. Haircut was a bold step taken by me. I still remember the date it was 7 july 13. Parents were not at home and as usual i had washed my hair and was sitting in the front lawn with my hair wet and open. My cousin cum my neighbour Ashish came to visit me. He knew that i always wanted to get a haircut. He suggested that its high time that i have kept long hair now i should cut them else the hsirline would receed snd haircut later would not suit. I denied initially, but he insisted alot and told me to cover my head and cum with him to the saloon across the street, i was a bit reluctant but he persuaded me and demonstrated his short hair, good looks and tension free life. He then forcefully dragged me with him. I somewhere always wanted to cut my hair as i had slways seen ashish's short hair, hairstyles, tidy hair and wanted to be like him. He belonged to a mixed family, his father is a hindu and mother (bhua) is s sikh, he had a joora till he was 6 but then his father one day took him to a saloon and got him a cut as he wanted him to look gud. But that day was my my haircut day. The barber in the saloon opened my wet hair combed them and tied a loose joora on my head. He then unfurled the joora to some height and using the scissors cut off the joora, when the hair were being cut the short hair fell and touched my cheeks and neck. In about a minute the joora was in the barber's hand. He gave the joora to me and the began combing back the hair, made partitions and started cutting the hair. He suggested a center partition haircut, since my hair were quite voluminous. He cropped off the hair from ny neck and shaped in the sideburns. Removed the extra hair from the forehead sides and mane. Then he shaved off my chin and thin moustache. I got a new look. Ashish was right my life took turn that day. Now we both look brothers. The very next month i took my younger brother Sumit for a haircut and got him the freedom. It has been around 7 months and i have been to saloon 15 times. I love to try hairstyles, wet my hair, comb then, feel the short hair. I shave regularly snd get ready in 5 mins unlike earlier when it used to take 15 mind to only comb snd tie the joora.

@ mani - This is real interesting. First your mom did not have a haircut nad your chachiji had one. She inspired your mom for a haircut and rebonding. Now it is the opposite - your mom is so enthusiastic about hair cuts! Actually it is good because someone i the family should be passionate about such things. Shaid kisse din tuhadi mom short hair cut karva lave ot a chin length bob! Bahut hi interesting hovega. Mani, how is your hair now? Agar mom ton head shave karva lende taan tuhadi mom nu satisfaction milni si. Te tussi pher clean feel naal rehena si. Mainu lagda hai shahid tuhado=i mom nu haircut karan layi bahut ji karda si, par proper time nahin milia. Jadun mauka miliya, usda pahida liya. and tussi donno ne mom di help kitti by going in for hair cut. I am sure tuhade cousins (chachaji de kids) vi hair cut nu cheddi adopt kar layenge. Shaid oh tuhade chachaji naal is baare share karde honge. Your mom can talk to your chachaji about this. and slowly they can be taken for haircut. One at a time and then the maaza can be felt. I can remember my cousins ne jadun hair cut kitte si. Pahelan, elder one ne hair cut karva liya - aape. Usdi mom khush ho gayi because usne soochiya si par karvaya nahin. After some time younger one ne elder nu kahiya hair cut layi. Dono arber shop te gaye and bahut chotte vaal katva ditte. Jadun ghar aaye taan mom ne japphi vich liya and bless kita. Handsom nikal ke aaye ho, usne keha. Ejder ne shave vi kita si ate uh bahut he sohns lag reha si. Par he still wears a paag. Uhna di mom bahut khush hai te hun oh vi aapna haircut karke rakhdi hai - shoulder length. Saari family ek saath saloon ti jade han, Kaddi kddi, ghar vich ve barber nu bula lainde han - family affair ho jaanda hai. Very nie to share. Hope karde haan ki tuhado chachiji vi chachaji nu maana lainge te tussi saanu hor stories dassoge. Good luck Enjoy

@ Sahil - Congratulations for the courage. I am pleased that you have liked your new look.Actually yo ahve explained the feelings of a person who goes for a hair cut for the first time. But your cousin should be praised to introduce you to freedom and he cared for your feelings. And you did the same for your brother. All cousins are the same. You also have common names, like can be for sikh or hindu names - sahil and sumit. And your bhua would be so pleased as also your mother who would be relieved from the daily hair combing. The barber has two more customers. Shaving is very refreshing and the clean look and feel is very comfortable. Also if you want you can shave every day or after some days. But in a beard you have to fix it everyday or it will look so odd. And it is an important date for you - and you have also kept a note of the saloon visits - twice a month! Congrats for enjoying this phase of your life. Keep your 'joora' pics and then show later to your wife or girlfriend. She would appreciate so much and then you will again relish that you took a right decision. Best Wishes Sahil and write more experiences so that more people join us and the experience goes on........!

yes its been long since it had my first cut but i was trying to grow it to mid back. i must tell u it was a great experience noticing the short hair grow everyday and with that u can try different styles. i am really enjoying my braid-free days.
last week i went for the regular trim as its been more than 3 months of my first cut. but more than me mom was excited as she accompanied me this time to salon. i just asked for trim as i planned to maintain mid back hair with side swept bangs.
now comes the exciting part the reason for mom to accompany me....
i had persuaded her to get her hair trim as well. mom is in her early fifties and like most of the punjabi moms she was maintaining her hair in jooda.
after my turn mom sat on the chair and the lady opened her loose jooda as her were already washed in the morning. she asked me what type of cut she wants, i said as it is her first time and she is bit hesitant as well, only a trim will serve the purpose. the lady combed her hair well and sprayed a bit of water to wet the hair and then she started trimming the hair from bottom. since hair were never cut before it was uneven and quite a lot of hair were cut from bottom to make it even. then i asked her to give it a U shape as straight hair were not looking good. then she blow dry the hair and it was done. mom was about to tie the jooda again. i gave her a rubber band and asked her to tie a pony instead of jooda. i had always seen mom in jooda. it was the first time she center partitioned her hair and tied a pony. she was looking very sweet and younger. her hair were perfectly cut, pony was looking very nice. when we went home dad looked at her and said she is looking very priety.
now mom usually keep pony at home but when going out with dad she tie jooda so that it does not look odd.

@mani: yoight in saying kinext generation ne long hairs nahin rakhne. So better hai ki jaldi hi unha di hair cut karva diye. Par tussi sareyan nu long hairs rakhan da chance ditta hai - tuhadi mom ne te chachiji ne. You and your brother opted for hair cut and now head shave. So your cousins also have chace to keep hairs or have hair cut. hair wash and combing taan really panga hai te time consuming hai. your mother will do real help to your chachiji in giving hair cut to kids. Do tell us about experience!

@kaur: I do not think mani and their family is like hindu family. Many sikh families have turban fathers and hair cut sons, these days. Also ladies have nice haircuts. many mothers give kids haircuts from beginning for nice looks and save trouble and time. It is a change which should be accepted.

I belong to a Sikh family and haircut was a thought which could never ever visit even our minds. We are four brothers I, gaurav, rohit and ashish. I am 18 years old and is eldest of them all. We had a first cousin himanshu who was my masi's son and he was a hindu(as my masarji is a Hindu). He came to live with us in Delhi for his studies. Seeing a guy having short hair and clean shaven face living with us was a new thing. I shared my room with him. I saw him shave, gel his hair, wash and comb his hair, style his hair and over above all get ready in just around 10 mins while it took me around 45 mins to get ready. I also accompanied him to saloon for his haircut and styling. All four of us now had an anxiety to be like him. He even told and motivated our thoughts for a haircut. Himanshu even demonstrated our look using photoshop and made us look with short hair. It was last month that all four of us went with himanshu to the saloon for the haircut. First one was ashish, he got a spiky short haircut, next was rohit, he got a forehead flick with long hair at back, gaurav got a comber back hair. Next was my turn, I was a bit nervous since I had spent a longer time with my Joora than my brothers. But then ashish consoled me and himanshu encouraged me. Barber opened my hair and cut off the length till my neck with the scissors. I selected center portion haircut and barber was good enough to style and gel it. Then he shave off my small beard and shaped up the sideburns. Now all four of us were looking smart and handsome. I kept on feeling my hair and smooth cheeks. Rohit and gaurav went in for ear piercing. Now we all feel the joy with open head, short hair, clean look and easy to maintain lifestyle. Parents were furious at our act but since four of us were together in action they accepted the same but for two weeks it was a terrible hullaby.

@Akash: CONGRATS to all four of you. It is real good that all the four brothers gave each other courage and support for hair cut at the same time. But one thing is that all the four brothers have names which sound mostly like hindu family names. But that is besides the point - and the most important thing is that Himanshu has helped you a lot and prepared you all for the hair cut. Your massi would be very happy because now her son (your cousin) would have great company. It would be even more enjoyable if all the five of you would be able to go for a haircut at one time simultaneously sitting in chairs at one time! At this time, the barber would be very happy as he got four new and permanent customers in one day. How many times have you gone for restyling in the past one month? Try our different styles and even a buzz cut for all of you. The hair will grow out well after that and you will relax. Shaving is a very refreshing experience and it is nice that you got a shave at the same time. Now you can have fun and will also have more friends as your appearance is more acceptable. Your parents must be mad with you but the numbers saved you, as all of you were together. Great job done Himanshu and good bye 'jooras'!
