@mani: you asked me about myself. Well it is a long story. it began in college when one o my classmate got a haircut. he turned out to look good. After a few days another boy got a haircut and then the girls in our class told me ke main vi haircut karva lavan. pehlan taan main bahut dar gayeya, par jadun uhnan ne bahut vari keheya taan main soochan lag payeya. i discussed with my friends who told me it is cool. Ek do vaari main barber shop te gayeya vi , par vapas aa gayeya. mainu usde scissors te razor tun afraid si. But then in the holidays main apne ek school time de frend nu milan layi gaya. It was summer time and in India summer is very hot and trouble some. One evening we were sitting on the open and he mentioned how cool it was with the air running through his hairs. he had a short haircut specially for summers. Then expressed my wish and also told him about the earlier incidents. He took the initiative and took me to a barber shop. i was really afraid and also feeling very jittery. but the barber shop was free and my friend asked if the barber would cut my hair. The barber first asked me. I sat on the chair and did not answer; but took off my turban and when the barber saw my 'joora' he was surprised. he wanted to be sure if I wanted a haircut. mere friend me usnu dassiya ke haircut kar de. mere vaal khulan tun bina hi barber ne scissors naal joora nu cut kar ditta.mere vaal saare paase spread ho gaye. short and falling near my earsnd light ness on my head. I felt sad but sat very still. The barber then wrapped a white cloth around m. I did not know it was called cape, then. then he cut my hair short like a school boy. usne sprayer naal saare vaal wet kar ditte te vaal cut kari gaya. pehlan long hairs girde agye ; phir small snips mere cape te san. He tapered the back hairs with a hand clipper. Pher usne razor(ustra) naal mere neckline nu shave keeta behind the ears nu vi shave keeta. Side burns taan nahin si kite. Unse beard nu trim keeta and asked if I need a shave. But i did not agree. mere friend ne mainu chair ton utha ke changi taran dekheya te joor naal jhappi paa laye. I felt so different. Aapni turban main apne naal lai ke barber sho pton bahar aa agya. Mere friend ne barber nu pay keeta. In about half hour I was a different looking person. Hun main khush taan si par could not still accept that I had got a haircut!
I was happy and my friend was happy too. After some more days of staying with my friend, I also went to the barber shop a second time. This time I did not get afraid of the scissors and also asked for a very close cut. I was happy that no more summer problem and more free time. When I came back to college, everyone was surprised and the girls in the class were so pleased. As I was having shortest hair everone anted to rub their hands on the soft fuzz. We partied and I was real happy. We wre all hair cut surds in the class now!
This is more than 30 years now and it was more difficult to get parents nu understand karvauna te family nu agree karna. but somehow the accepted.
Hope you like it mani friend.
Then I helped many others who wanted haircuts but never forced anyone. it is a real gat feeling. par mere haed shave karan nu jee karda. I have not got it done. But aapne bacheyan nu 2 or 3 thimes head shave karta. they were so happy ke head te koi vaal nahin!

@Raman preet: Well objection was there and for a long time I did not get to go home. Then I used to tie a turban when I was home.
Slowly all got used to it and then normalcy returned. Some years later one by one my cousins and then some more in the extended family started getting hair cuts. Now there is rarely a family where there is a turbaned boy. Everyone knows to tie turbans but they are 'cut surds'. Their wives and most of our sisters have also cut or trimmed hair. Needless to say, their children have short hair for boys but girls have long hairs. Those who have settled abroad are with short hair, for sure. Best Wishes to all who focus and contribute to the blog/forum to promote hair cuts. Hope you all have a great holiday season and a fun filled 2014!

It will be very long story telling. We have just loved experimenting with hair styles and had all lengths and even gone in for buzzed hair. As I have mentioned, our children have had shaven heads and have also grown long hair - at one time they had 'jooras' and wore patkas to school. My wife had medium length (naturally) hair and used to keep in a bun - all tied up. once we went to Hyderabad and though it was a pleasant season, her hair kept on opening so much that she got fed up. I suggested that she may cut her hair. As if she was seeking my permission, she got herself a haircut on the first available opportunity. We came to Delhi and she wanted me to accompany her to a parlour. I thought she was joking, but while I waited, she came back a transformed lady with hair just till her shoulders. It was a revelation! Then she never went back for long hair. Actually went from short, shorter, shortest! Now she has neck length but is craving for a shorter cut. She will one day. We have all reached such a state of mind that a little extra growth results in uneasiness and we just troop to a saloon/barber shop and enjoy our haircuts!

<quoted text>@ congrats for you courage and new look. Did your parents accept?. How do you feel now? Have your friends liked your new look. Karan has supported you and you will never forget this good gesture of his. Go for a second styling cut and make it very short as with the first cut the hair is difficult to maintain. When you wash hair at home and a few days after the haircut the hair is not easy. The barber 'sets' it but in natural style the hair needs time to style. This is because of the long time it was tied as a 'joora'. The best thing is to cut it as short as possible so that it grows back in natural style. SO go back and get a second cut as soon as possible. Best wishes and good luck in your new experiences.
My parents first of all objected but later on after a lot of chaos agreed to it. Now i as well as my friends find me smart and handsome. I go to school with my younger brother (Saurabh). He ties a joora and a patka and ppl make fun of him and i did not like it so when we were cuming back i took him to a saloon on the way and got his hair cut. The barber made a pony and cut off the hair and gave a buzz cut. The parents somehow knew this gonna happen so did not react. Now we both look cool brothers. I have a receded hairline but my brother has dense hair as he got haircut at an early stage. I really feel happy fir him.

@Sahil: Real good that you took initiative and got your brother a hair cut. It must be liked by him. Also the at one go buzz cut would make him feel light and happy. Your parents will accept with time and slowly your mother would appreciate it. Hi handsome boys!

I am a sikh boy 20 years old and i hv a younger brother Akaash who is 16 years old. Like a normal sikh family my family is too orthodox about hair. But i always wanted to cut my hair. But as fate would have it about 4 years ago when Akaash was 12 he developed some boils on his head due to heat and sweat, so as adviced by doctor we made him get a haircut and till now he maintains short hair. Since the i used to feel his cut hair abd adore to get mine cut also. When i became 18 i started trimming my beard and gradually just maintaining a stubble. Last week it was like another normal visit to the saloon for my beard cut but i went with Akaash as he wanted to get a haircut. While his cut was over the barber was trimming my beard, Akassh came to me and said why dont you also cut the joora and look cool. His words struck me and my desire was out. Tears were in my eyes but i said i cannot parents wiuld feel bad. But Akaash had felt the freedom so he held my hand and consoled me to get it done. But the barber refused to cut my joora and told me to cut ot at home and cum here for styling as he did not want any problems. But suddendly Akaash opened my patka and unfurled my joora and snatched the scissors from the table and snipped my hair till my neck. My head felt light. Hen ge told barber to proceed. I got a byzz cut as advised by akaash as my hair growth though dense but was not styled. Also the stubble was shaved. I felt awesome, Akaash made me feel liberty.

@Mandeeep Singh: Well no way out but a good hair cut. A buzz cut will help you out to some extent but then it has to be maintained before you go for some styling. Take courage and everyone will get used to it. It is nice to indulge in yourself! Get a new look in 2014, Mandeep.

well i will try to convince my parents and ask for a haircut but do you really think a buzz cut will work in restoring my hairline and increase my volume and hair growth ???? because some people says that its just a myth ?

Hey
Look to be honest, I googled it.
A surprising number of people have good
natural volume, but it's flattened by the
invisible residue from the very products which
are supposed to help!
Many shampoos and conditioners - even so-
called "volumizing" products - contain silicone
or polymers. They're plastic-like substances
that stick to the surface of each strand of hair,
to make it fatter. That works on naturally
strong, bouncy hair - but on fine hair, the
weight of the coating pulls the hair down,
counteracting the extra "fatness", so your hair
gets even flatter!
So before you can regain your volume, you
must get rid of the build-up by using a good
clarifying shampoo.
Whichever shampoo you choose, lather twice,
rinse well and see if your hair recovers its
bounce. Repeat the treatment every now and
then, to prevent any future build-up. And don't
buy any more plasticized shampoos!
If you need I'd post more.
Don't let sikhi ruined, what will you teach your children, how would you be able to say them to follow sikhi if you won't be a follower yourself?!!

Think...that isn't sikhi more important.
I know first solution to your problem, if anyone however, suggest would be cutting, but you know I googled out and got a result on the first page itself, where citing wasn't mentioned to volumize hairs.
